Dean Gaffney makes sly dig at Im A Celebrity… South Africa after early exit

Dean Gaffney sent Good Morning Britain viewers into a frenzy after his comments about I'm A Celebrity.

The former EastEnders actor was welcomed by Adil Ray and Susanna Reid onto Thursday's edition (May 11) of the ITV breakfast show to talk about his experience in camp.

The star was one of the 15 names invited to return to the long-running endurance show for the special All-Stars instalment in South Africa.

Dean, 45, first took part in the Australian jungle back in 2006 where he came in fifth place alongside the likes of his South Africa co-star Myleene Klass.

Although in the new pre-recorded version of the show, he only came in seventh place but when asked by the hosts about his experience, he seemed to make a dig at the bosses.

He said: "I think the atmosphere, with this one, because we are playing a kind of homage to the original show. I think it was a good concept. I think it's worked."

Despite initial praise for the format, he then went onto wonder if the result would have been different if the show was in its usual live format and included viewer voting, not just head to head trials.

He exclaimed: "Who knows what the formation would have been had it'd been a live vote or whatever. If the public had been able to vote, would I have stayed in longer? Would I have come out when I did? So it's an interesting one."

But at the same time, the former soap actor confirmed just how absolutely delighted he was to be asked back on the show by the bosses at ITV.

Speaking to Susanna Reid, he said: "I think you know, it's a great honour to have been asked back.

"I think there's something like 300 people have gone through camp in the last 21 years or whatever it is. And so I think, to be asked as one of 15 to be asked but actually a great accolade."

Whilst he also opened up on his close friendship with Joe Swash, as he said although it was great to spend time with the personality, he could tell he missed his wife Stacey Solomon and their kids.

He explained: "Joe, in his own in his own words was basically saying that when he was on the show, he was you know, a bit cheeky chappy single guy.

"Now he's got a family to look after and, and he missed his wife, he missed Stacey, he missed the kids.

"Joe was actually, he was really lovely to be in there with, he's actually become like one of my really close mates. It's really good to spend time with him. "
