Girls Aloud's Kimberley Walsh turned away by Emmerdale despite sister starring

Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh has revealed that Emmerdale bosses turned her down for a role on the ITV soap, despite sister Amy taking on a prominent role.

Amy Walsh played Tracy Metcalfe between 2014 and 2022, when she left to have a baby in January of that year.

The actress gave birth to her first child, who she shares with former EastEnders star Toby Alexander-Smith, over the festive period.

The character’s reason for leaving the Emmerdale village was a new job opportunity in Nottingham, following her difficult journey with PND after the birth of daughter Frankie and a break up with Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter)

She made a brief return to the show in October 2022 during the show’s 50th anniversary.

Amy is not the only Walsh sister to have appeared on the show, with elder sister Sally having played Lyn Hutchinson between 1997 and 2000.

Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine, Kimberley revealed that she also tried out for a part, but things didn’t go her way.

‘I auditioned for it in the past, but they haven’t gone for the hat-trick.’

The singer explained how she would like to give it a try, but that she is happy to leave it to her sister.

‘It would be funny to go in for a couple of episodes, but that’s definitely Amy’s thing, and I’m happy to leave it to her.’

She went on to say that being on a soap is a big commitment, and something that she can’t really offer her time to at the moment.

‘Any soap is just so full-on and a lifestyle choice, which I just can’t really do right now.’

Kimberley is no stranger to working in TV, having gotten her big break on ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals back in 2002.

She is currently presenting BBC Morning Live, and hopes to do some more presenting work in future.

‘I’m hoping I can do a bit more live TV. I’ve never been a planner, but I’ve always trusted my gut and it’s worked out.’
