Debbie McGee left flustered after embarrassing George Clooney run-in
Debbie McGee on her embarrassing run in with George Clooney
On Wednesday’s instalment of Good Morning Britain, hosts Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley welcomed performer Debbie McGee onto the show to speak about her upcoming BBC show, B&B By The Sea. During their conversation, the 64-year-old spoke about the prospect of finding love again which came after her first meeting with George Clooney.
Kate Garraway questioned if Debbie was ready to find love again following the death of her husband Paul Daniels who died in 2016.
Admitting she’s open to the idea but isn’t actively seeking a partner, Debbie told Kate and Richard she believes those who go looking for love fail to find it.
Interjecting, Richard revealed to ITV viewers it was Hollywood actor George Clooney who reawakened this desire to have romance in her life once again.
Debbie replied: “If I’m honest, it’s a bit embarrassing my meeting with John- John?! George Clooney, see I’ve already got all-
“I was at a talk with a former film director who was kind of giving a talk about his life story, he’s in his 90s now and George was there.
“I did have the opportunity to go and say hello, he lives 10 minutes from where I live up the river.”
Richard questioned whether or not it was a disappointment to meet the 61-year-old following his gentlemanly persona many are aware of.
She replied: “Not in any way Richard, nearly as charming as you.
“I think I’m older now and when I was younger I’d get nervous if I met a man I fancied, but these days I can kind of control that little flirtation.
“But, with George I couldn’t, I became a teenager! I got really giggly and silly.
“I told him that I could swim from my house to his, he must’ve thought, ‘Who is this stupid idiot girl?’
“The only other person I’ve only got like that with was Paul McCartney and it was years ago.”

Detailing the time she met the Beatles legend, the 64-year-old explained he had first come up to say to her when she was doing a Royal Gala performance.
Debbie revealed the singer already knew who she was before being introduced properly which she didn’t expect, resulting in her fan-girling over the iconic star.
However, the GMB host commented it’s better than him mistaking her for someone else as he recalled an incident where Amanda Holden was once mistaken for Debbie.
He said: “About 20 years ago Judy and I were at some charity lunch in London and we were standing behind Amanda and Les Dennis, who she was with at the time.
“We were all queuing to get our passes to go into this dining room, we get to the table and the woman who was handing out the passes looks at Amanda and Les and says, ‘It’s Debbie McGee and Paul Daniels’
“Amanda turned around to me and said, ‘Don’t you dare mention that on This Morning tomorrow.’”
Although Debbie seemed pleased with the comparison as she told Richard she was flattered.
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV from 6am.
