YouTube sensation Joe Sugg met Australian professional dancer Dianne Buswell during the 2018 series of Strictly Come Dancing. The pair made it through to the final and narrowly missed out on the Glitterball Trophy to Stacey Dooley and her partner Kevin Clifton. Joe, 31, and Dianne, 33, officially became an item after the series ended, but the influencer recently addressed difficult times in their relationship with Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett.

Speaking on Steven’s podcast, The Diary of a CEO, Joe explained he used to be quite nervous about getting a girlfriend because he was worried about how his 10 million followers would react.

Joe explained: “I had a largely female demographic and I was worried about how they would react as I have friends who have girlfriends who have introduced them to their audience.

“I always thought it would be a very private thing and it ended up being the complete opposite as you can watch the moment we met which is kind of unusual.”

Steven told Joe he was essentially “forced” to spend time with Dianne as they were partnered up on Strictly Come Dancing.

The entrepreneur told Joe: “You weren’t there to fall in love but they put you together for this intimate [show] for many months and it feels like that was probably the best way for you to get past talking yourself out of it.”

The YouTuber agreed and admitted: “I feel like we saw the best and the worst of each other in that 16-week period.

“There have been times where we were going into training and things were not going to plan and we thought we were going home.

“The further you go in that competition the higher the pressure is and the stress gets.

“So we saw the best and the worst of each other within those 16 weeks.”

He explained he felt their relationship was strong coming out of the competition as he had seen the “best and worst” of Dianne.

Once the show ended, Joe took part in the Strictly Come Dancing tour with his co-stars and revealed to Steven he and Dianne became a couple before the tour.

“We missed each other as we didn’t see each other and I missed spending time with her,” Joe added.

“We had a conversation and decided to see each other more often, and then we actually went away to a place in the New Forest for a trip.”

He recalled being “followed” by the paparazzi in an Aston Martin he had hired for the day.

“It put me on so much edge, I couldn’t concentrate on driving as I knew this person was trying to follow us,” he admitted.

Joe tried to “shake him off” and told Dianne to play the James Bond theme song as they got away from the paparazzi.

Reflecting on the incident, Joe said: “I thought, ‘This is not what I am used to at all.'”

The couple have been going strong for years and while the pair often have to be apart due to work commitments, Joe told Steven he loves spending quality time with her when he can.
