Upcoming Doctor Who star Ruth Madeley accidentally revealed a spoiler on The One Show.

Ruth will be in the 60th anniversary special which is yet to be released and will star as Shirley Anne Bingham.

The TV star appeared on The One Show on Monday (July 24) and accidentally revealed a series secret.

Host Alex Jones quizzed her on her upcoming role and left her quaking in her boots as she worried she would let out a spoiler and be "sacked".

Ruth said: "Literally this has been giving me such anxiety all day, I'm so terrified to be sacked before it's even out because I'm so convinced I'm going to say something that I shouldn't.

"You're going to love Shirley, you're going to love the episodes or episode. Who knows? Oh," she gasped as she realised she confirmed she will be in more than one segment of the show.

"All I will say is whatever questions you have my answer will be 'guess'," she added.

This comes after the BBC show took to Twitter to promote Ruth being on the show.

They shared a snap of her and wrote: She's on a mission to make mainstream fashion more inclusive, @Ruth_Madeley will be on #TheOneShow to discuss her new show #TheUniqueBoutique!

"She's also making her @BBCDoctorWho debut soon…

"Got a question for Ruth? Reply below or email [email protected]"

BBC viewers flocked to the comment section to ask the star their ever-burning questions.

One asked: "What can you tell us about your role in Doctor Who that we might not know yet?"

A second added: "Without going into spoilers, how would you describe Shirley Anne Bingham?"

While a third penned: "What are her earliest memories of Doctor Who and why did she want to join Doctor Who?"
