Doctors fans livid as soap is booted from BBC One in last minute schedule shake-up for Liz Truss' resignation | The Sun

DOCTORS fans were left infuriated after the BBC drama was tossed to one side to make way for Liz Truss' resignation speech.

Truss dramatically resigned as Prime Minister today after just 44 days in office.

The embattled PM made a solemn speech outside Downing Street this afternoon confirming the astonishing turn of events.

Ms Truss' six weeks in office make her the shortest serving premier the UK has ever had.

A Tory leadership race will now begin and a new PM will be chosen by next Friday.

Standing outside No10 this afternoon, Ms Truss said: "I came into office at a time of great economic and international instability.

"Families and businesses were worried about how to pay their bills. Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine threatens the security of our whole continent.

"I was elected by the Conservative Party with a mandate to change this.

"I recognise though, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.

"I have therefore spoken to His Majesty The King to notify him that I am resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party."

The shocking announcement was broadcast across national media, including a slot on BBC One.

However, those gearing up for an action-packed episode of Doctors were left rather peeved after the show was scrapped on the main channel.

Taking to Twitter, one disgruntled person penned ahead of her announcement: "The BBC had better not cancel Doctors because of Liz Truss!"

Coming to their aid, one savvy fan announced: "Doctors has been moved over to BBC Two, folks. But you can't beat the drama rolling out on BBC One right now."

While a third added: "Oh s***! Could Truss not have waited until after Doctors?"

Doctors airs weekdays at 1.45pm on BBC One.
