‘DTWS’ Semi-Finals Recap: Two Pairs Are Sent Home in Last Double Elimination
The celebrity dancers return to the ballroom in the new episode of the long-running dancing competition show before two couples are eliminated ahead of season 31 finale.
AceShowbiz -The competition in season 31 of “Dancing with the Stars” is getting fiercer. The celebrity dancers returned to the ballroom in the Monday, November 14 episode as they had reached the semi-finals. At the end of the episode, two pairs would be sent home in one last double elimination ahead of the finale.
Kicking off the Round 1 were Wayne Brady and Witney Carson. They hit the dance floor to dance a Paso Doble to “Beggin’ ” and the judges noticed some sloppy moves in the performance. Derek Hough commented on his shoulders and hips, but still thought it was a strong dance overall. Len Goodman saw strong shapes and aggressive movement, though he mentioned about a stumble near the end. The pair got 36/40.
Following it up were Daniel Durant and Britt Stewart, who danced a Viennese Waltz to “Surprise Yourself”. Bruno Tonioli said what he brought to the dance floor was fantastic. As for Carrie Ann Inaba, she said that the pair had an “authentic” unity when they danced. The judges gave them 35/40.
Dancing a Paso Doble to “The Edge of Glory”, Shangela and Gleb Savchenko impressed the judges. Bruno said he loved the dramatic solo despite her missing a part in it. Len called the routine powerful dancing and loved the traditional steps. Carrie Ann applauded Shangela for not dancing in fear and was never afraid to fail. The pair earned 36/40.
Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas then followed it up with a Viennese Waltz to “Glimpse of Us”. After the performance, Carrie Ann gushed over it as she said that it was perfection on top of perfection. Len added that it was so good it literally took his breath away, while Bruno said that Charli danced like an angel. Charli got a perfect score.
Trevor Donovan and Emma Slater then took the stage to dance a Cha Cha to “Satisfied”. Len praised Trevor for getting stronger and stronger each week, but he noted that Trevor still lacked rhythm at times. Carrie Ann dubbed it strong and clean, adding that Trevor brought joy when he danced. The judges gave him 32/40.
As for Gabby Windey and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, they opted to dance a Waltz to “I’m Kissing You”. Derek loved every aspects of the performance as he called it “flawless.” Carrie Ann said Gabby stripped down some walls in this performance and she had a new grace. The performance earned the pair a perfect score of 40/40.
After Len announced that this season would be his last season judging on “DWTS”, Wayne and Witney returned to the stage to kick off the Round 2 with a Viennese Waltz to “It’s a Man’s World”. Len thought it lacked some content, while Derek criticized his frame. Bruno noted that Wayne wasn’t there when it came to technique, but he knew how to connect through the dance. He got 37/40.
Daniel and Britt, meanwhile, danced a Samba to “Light Up”. Bruno said that he did it well even though Samba is one of the hardest dances to do. Carrie Ann added that he danced with swagger, noting that Daniel always turned obstacles into opportunities. The judges gave them 34/40.
Dancing a Viennese Waltz to “I Have Nothing” were Shangela and Gleb. Carrie Ann was totally impressed as she left the judges’ table to literally bow down to Shangela. Len complimented the fluidity and lyricism of the dance, though he criticized her head. The pair got 37/40.
As for Charli and Mark, the two danced a Paso Doble to “Espana Cani” for the second round. Again, Carrie Ann left the table and went to hug Charli. Len called Charli and Mark “fantastic,” while Bruno said he captured the essence of the spirit of Spain. Charli once again got a perfect score.
Up next were Trevor and Emma, who danced a Viennese Waltz to “Count on Me”. Derek thought it had a beautiful choreo and complimented their partnership. Carrie Ann echoed the sentiment with Bruno praising Trevor about how well he’s done all season. Trevor got 33/40.
Gabby and Val then hit the stage to dance a Paso Doble to “Malaguena”. Len said he loved the attack, aggression and moments of stillness in the routine. Carrie Ann added that she’s never seen her dance with so much intensity. That night was Gabby’s night as she earned another perfect score for her performance.
It was then time to reveal the results. Shangela, Daniel Durant and Trevor Donovan were the bottom three. The first pair to get eliminated were Trevor and Emma. Daniel and Britt were then named as the second couple to be sent home as the judges decided to save Shangela.
