EastEnders and Corrie return as ITV keeps daytime TV schedule changes after Queens death

In the wake of the Queen's death, there have been massive changes to the regular TV schedules as the country observes a period of national mourning.

BBC One and ITV changed their schedules to accommodate breaking news coverage of the momentous event, and a number of special programmes celebrating the long and historic reign of Queen Elizabeth II went on air in the place of the usual shows.

Several popular programmes have been affected by the schedule changes, including daytime TV such as This Morning and Loose Women, as well as soaps such as EastEnders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

But now ITV and the BBC have announced both EastEnders and Coronation Street will be back on from this evening (September 12).

EastEnders will return to BBC One after days of suspended programming.

The BBC has confirmed it will continue to air rolling news coverage on Monday with a BBC News special filling regular TV slots alongside HM The King: Westminster Tributes and Scotland: A Service For HM The Queen.

However, fan-favourite soap EastEnders will return to BBC One at 8.30pm, having been moved from its usual channel on Friday alongside Homes Under The Hammer and Bargain Hunt which aired on BBC Two.

The highly-anticipated episode will see Alfie Moon, played by Shane Richie, return to Walford on the wedding day of Kat Slater and Phil Mitchell, played by Jessie Wallace and Steve McFadden.

And ITV have announced ITV will return to scheduled programming with Coronation Street at 8pm (episode originally scheduled for Friday 9 September) followed by The Suspect at 9pm.

Other changes to expect on Monday 12 September:

Good Morning Britain returned at 6am and ran until 10am. The, at 10am an ITV News Special presents The King’s Tour – Westminster.

At 11am, a special This Morning will be on air presented by Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, featuring stories and memories from people who met and encountered The Queen during her reign.

At 1pm, there will be an ITV News Special: Queen Elizabeth II: Lying At Rest which will continue throughout the afternoon.

Late afternoon programming will then follow at 4.30pm with Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals; at 5pm The Chase.

And then at 8pm, ITV will return to scheduled programming with Coronation Street (episode originally scheduled for Friday 9 September) and The Suspect at 9pm.

ITV’s main channel will continue to make changes to its schedule to broadcast the important state events of the coming days culminating in the historic state funeral with extensive and dedicated news coverage from our news teams.

ITV will also be showing a number of documentaries about the Queen and the new King over the coming days. No advertising will run during any of the Royal coverage or commentary.

Elsewhere the National Television Awards have been postponed.

ITV and Indigo Television confirmed the news on Friday, after they made the decision to reschedule this year's National Television Awards, following the sad news.

In a statement, they said: “ITV and Indigo Television have taken the decision to reschedule this year’s National Television Awards; the ceremony will now take place on Thursday October 13, live from the OVO Arena Wembley.

“All tickets will remain valid for the new date.”

The awards were originally due to be held at the OVO Arena in Wembley on 15 September, with comedian and presenter Joel Dommett returning to host the show, which would celebrate the best of British TV talent in a special ceremony televised on ITV.

King Charles III has confirmed that the day of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral will be a bank holiday as he was proclaimed King in a historic event.

The funeral will take place on Monday, September 19.
