EastEnders and Strictly legend Rose Ayling-Ellis lands major new TV role
Rose Ayling-Ellis’ next TV role has been revealed after leaving EastEnders.
The actress played Frankie Lewis, daughter of Mick Carter (Danny Dyer), but departed last September for a new job in Scotland.
Rose’s new role will be in the ITV drama, Code of Silence.
The series will follow Deaf catering worker, Alison Woods, who is struggling to make ends meet while supporting her Deaf mum, Julie.
While working her one of two jobs in the police canteen, Alison is approached by DC Ashleigh Francis, who asks her to lip read the conversations of some dangerous criminals, which plunges her into a new and exhilarating world.
Alison’s interpretation of the gang’s clandestine meetings quickly become key to unlocking the police investigation. But her feelings about the case become complicated when she finds herself drawn to Liam, one of the main suspects.
Alison knows she’s putting herself at risk by agreeing to work with the police, and when things threaten to spill over into her personal life, she knows she should step away.
But can she let go?
Discussing her new role, Rose Ayling-Ellis said: ‘I am so thrilled to be coming on board for Code of Silence and to get to work with the incredible team at Mammoth Screen.
‘When I first read Catherine Moulton’s script it was obvious that her first-hand experiences and understanding has enabled her to write a truly authentic character and I knew I had to be a part of this project. I am so delighted ITV are as excited as we are to bring this to life, and I can’t wait to get to started!’.
Mammoth Screen’s Founder and Chief Creative Officer Damien Timmer added: ‘Rose Ayling-Ellis is one of the UK’s most luminous stars and Catherine Moulton is one of our most exciting new writing talents, so this really is a match made in heaven! Code of Silence is a riveting thriller which will make you look at the world around you with new eyes.’
Rose also made history being the first Deaf contestant on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2021.
She went on to win the show alongside her professional partner, Giovanni Pernice.
Most recently, she featured alongside Amanda Holden, Motsi Mabuse and Gareth Malone for the BBC’s project Sing for the King, which saw a variety of choirs from up and down the country perform during the King’s Coronation Concert.
Rose helped mentor Unify, an all-deaf sign group who use BSL to sign song lyrics.
