EastEnders boss reveals 'epic' ending for Mick Carter
EastEnders says goodbye to one of its most iconic ever characters this Christmas, as Mick Carter bows out after nine years.
We’re not crying, we swear.
Danny Dyer, 44, has decided to leave the show after almost a decade as the loveable landlord of the Vic, and shortly after the news broke, bosses started pulling together an explosive ending, fitting for a character such as Mick.
This year has seen Mick embark on a relationship with Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks), who manipulated and schemed her way into his heart after destroying his marriage to soulmate Linda (Kellie Bright).
Janine, however, will face the music on Christmas Day, as the truth about her lies and crimes are revealed in a truly unmissable edition of the BBC One serial drama, which sets in motion the wheels for Mick’s final scenes.
Sob.
‘When I joined the show back in January this year I was already aware that Danny would sadly be leaving us,’ said EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw. ‘We felt it was only right that after nine epic years we gave Mick Carter an epic ending.
‘Danny made his first appearance as Mick Carter, the landlord of the Vic, on Christmas Day 2013, followed by Kellie as his beloved wife Linda. During his time, Danny has appeared in a total on 1,150 episodes, he’s had 117 Doof Doofs and frankly we didn’t have enough time to do the Cockney count!
‘Mick Carter’s been involved in some of the show’s most memorable storylines and they are far too many to mention right now. It seems everyone does have a different favourite.
‘I’m personally very sad to see Danny leave Walford and everyone at work is very sorry to see Danny go.’
Same, Chris. Same.
Danny, meanwhile, said that he thought ‘long and hard’ about his decision to leave, and even questioned if he was making the right choice, but ultimately decided that it was.
The 45-year-old, much like producer Chris, was adamant that Mick’s storyline ended in an explosive way.
‘I wanted it to be a fitting end,’ said actor Danny.
The question is: will Mick make it out of Walford alive?
EastEnders airs these scenes on Christmas Day at 9:25pm on BBC One.
