EastEnders character return sees ‘big consequences’ for Linda Carter
EastEnders: Kellie Bright discusses whodunnit flash forward
In scenes set to air on the BBC soap next week, newbie Harriet Thorpe makes her debut as Elaine Peacock following a re-cast.
Elaine was introduced on EastEnders back in 2014, but wasn’t a regular character and was additional to some of Linda’s (played by Kellie Bright) storylines.
She was last seen in 2017 after Linda rushed away from Walford to care for her when she suffered a stroke.
However, the character is going to arrive back in Walford next week as a permanent part of Linda’s household.
Actress Harriet teased “big consequences” for the Square following Elaine’s appearance.
The soap confirmed Harriet would be taking on the role as Elaine turns up as part of a new Walford family, the Knights.
With the arrival of the newcomers drawing closer, fans are keen to find out how they might change the dynamic of Linda’s character as she continues to grieve the loss of her husband, Mick Carter (Danny Dyer).
Recent scenes have shown Linda playing two residents against each other as she led Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) and Nish Panesar (Navin Chowdhry) to believe they were both in with the chance of becoming The Vic’s new owner.
Giving fans a glimpse into what’s to come, Harriet teased: “I think they’re both hugely shocked, with big consequences.”

She said her arrival won’t be smooth, adding: “There’s always some drama!”
Detailing what Elaine might bring to Walford, Harriet continued: “Some laughs, a bit of wit, a bit of wisdom, and a strong woman.
“I don’t think she stirs [up trouble] but whenever there is any, she sorts it out immediately.”
She went on to describe Linda star Kellie as “absolutely amazing”.
“We’re very communicative about this wonderful mother-daughter relationship,” she added.
What could Elaine’s arrival and the new clan mean for Linda?
The barmaid has been through a lot in the last year and fans know there are more twists in store for her because she was among the group of women who featured in the soap’s history-making flash-forward, which took place on Christmas Day 2023.
The group of locals are in shock as they stand over a dead body at The Vic, but so far, no more details about the ominous scene have been confirmed.
EastEnders continues on Wednesday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
