  • EastEnders star Michelle Collins is set to return to the soap as the infamous Cindy Beale – 25 years after her character's demise.

According to reports, Cindy will rise from the dead to reunite with her on-screen husband Ian Beale.

A source told The Sun: "It’s going to be a bombshell."

"This has been done so secretively but it’s going to be an absolute bombshell — an unbelievable twist."

Ian and Cindy are one of the most well known couples in the soap, before he dated Jane, but his ex wife was supposed to be dead after passing 25 years ago.

While giving birth to twins Lucy Beale and Peter Beale, conniving Cindy died away from Albert Square 25 years ago during childbirth.

She was also serving time in prison for attempting to murder Ian at the time.

However, she is now going to re-join her on-screen husband, played by long-serving actor Adam Woodyatt.

In 2019, Michelle ruled out the possibility of a return to the BBC soap.

She told Press Association: "It's just too long now — apart from the fact I’m dead. If I went back to EastEnders, that would be it.

"I still haven’t shaken off Cindy after all these years.

"I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but it has always been there and I’ve done a lot of other work over the years."

EastEnders executives hope the storyline will hep increase interest as the show has an experienced slump in viewing figures.

After leaving the long-running BBC programme, Michelle starred in ITV's Coronation Street as pub landlady Stella Price from 2011-14.

She also had a small role in Casualty as events organiser Samantha Kellman in the summer of 2014.

In addition to this, Michelle has appeared in popular shows Death in Paradise, Midsomer Murders, and The Dumping Ground.

Meanwhile, 54-year-old Adam has been absent from EastEnders for almost two and a half years.

However the star did make a return to the soap for Dot Cotton's funeral in December 2022 after actress June Brown passed away at 95.

Although Adam went on to appear on ITV's I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, reports claimed that his break also coincided with his divorce from Beverley Sharp in late 2020.

Insiders claimed that Adam's difficult divorce threw him into financial chaos and he later left his family home to live in a campervan and travel around the UK.
