Top Gear crew ‘struggling’ with PTSD after Freddie Flintoff’s horror crash

Jason Manford discusses Freddie Flintoff after Top Gear accident

While filming the BBC show at Surrey’s Dunsfold Aerodrome in December, Freddie Flintoff was driving an open-topped three-wheel Morgan Super 3 sports car.

Going speeds of up to 130 mph, the vehicle crashed and flipped on its roof with Freddie and a production member inside.

After being dragged along the track, the former cricket star is believed to have waited 45 minutes to get airlifted to hospital.

Freddie is reported to of suffered from a broken rib along with facial and jaw injuries, as Top Gear production came to a halt.

It was believed those working on the show when the terrifying crash took place had been signed off with post-traumatic stress disorder, but the BBC has since confirmed to Express.co.uk no member of staff was signed off sick as a result of the accident.

Several members of the crew have been heavily impacted by what they witnessed with The Mail on Sunday stating it’s prevented them from returning to work.

A source said: “The scenes were awful, something you would truly want to unsee.

“The idea of returning to do that kind of work again for some people is just too much.

“It has been a terribly hard time for everyone involved in the crash. Some are still struggling with it so have been signed off work

In light of the crash, the 34th series of the long-running motor show will not continue following an internal investigation

Charlotte Moore, the chief content officer of the BBC, stated that it would be “inappropriate” to resume filming following the accident.

Speaking at the Broadcasting Press Guild event, she said: “My priority at the moment is supporting Freddie through his recovery.”

She continued: “I think we’ve got to talk about what Freddie wants to do. When someone’s in recovery, I don’t think we would push that.

“I think that would be really inappropriate, I wouldn’t be happy.

“I think you’ve got to be really human about this and do the right thing.”

Freddie has been part of Top Gear since 2018 after Friends star Matt LeBlanc revealed he’d be leaving.

However, this isn’t the first time Freddie has faced a horrifying crash while part of the show as an incident happened one year after he joined.

While his car was going 125mph, he was unable to stop his vehicle while racing his co-hosts.

Running out of the road, it’s believed he was seen spinning off in a cloud of dust and walked away unscathed.
