EastEnders star Alison Newman has lived a lot of lives.

The actress, 54, rose to fame on the popular ITV drama Footballers' Wives.

In 2008, she returned to the world of serial drama and was cast as DCI Samantha Keeble on EastEnders.

First arriving on Albert Square to investigate Max Branning's hit and run in 2008, Alison has recurred on the BBC One soap across the past 14 years.

As Keeble and Phil Mitchell battle it out in a tactical game of Cat and Mouse, could Keeble be ready to take down Walford's finest crook or will she be silenced for good?

While their drama plays out on screen, Daily Star has decided to take a look at her life away from the cameras.

    Former jobs

Alison Newman has been a recurring cast member on EastEnders for more than a decade and has been acting on-screen for almost 25 years.

Having made brief appearances in The Bill and Bad Girls, Alison caught her big break when she was cast as lesbian football agent Hazel Bailey on Footballers' Wives in 2002.

After three years on the show, Alison left the series for good in 2005.

Following her Footballers' Wives success, Alison landed minor roles in shows including Rocket Man, Rock Rivals, Endeavour, Whitechapel and Call The Midwife.

In 2020, she teamed up with her fellow soap actresses Denise Welch, Tamzin Outhwaite, Angela Griffin and Tracy-Ann Oberman for comedy-drama Dun Breedin’.

Created by Benidorm star Julie Graham and filmed entirely during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown, the series followed a group of women as they experienced menopause.

    New career

Alongside her acting career, Alison has pursued her interests behind the camera and co-created the hit British-American period drama Harlots.

The Hulu series ran for three seasons from 2017 – 2019.

It followed brothel owner Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton) as she tried to raise her daughters in 18th-century London, with Alison serving as both a creator and executive producer on the programme.

Harlots starred Leslie Manville, Samantha Morton and Jessica Brown Findlay.

    Death tragedy

Shortly after landing her big break in Footballers' Wives, Alison was left devastated by the loss of her father David Newman.

David passed away at the age of 72 in 2002, and the grieving actress allowed permission from producers to leave filming early in order to be with her family.

She unexpectedly met her husband Hugh Williams six months later.

    Graphic designer husband

Alison has been married to her graphic designer husband Hugh, 48, for almost 12 years.

The couple tied the knot in November 2010, having met eight years earlier.

Paying tribute to her husband – who is six years her junior – on their tenth anniversary, Alison wrote: "Ten years ago today, I married this wonderful, brilliant man and I could not love him more.

    "I am one lucky dame."
