EastEnders icon Max Branning comeback sealed after two major characters return

EastEnders fans believe Max Branning could be the next face returning to Albert Square after spotting two huge hints.

The Walford love cheat, played by Jake Wood for 15 years, hasn't been seen since he left the square in February 2021 following an explosive storyline involving the fallout of his affair with Linda Carter (Kellie Bright).

Now, viewers have spotted two clues that have 'sealed' his return, the first being the comeback of two major characters over the past few days.

Adam Woodyatt made a shock return as Ian Beale on Monday (December 12) evening to be part of the funeral of Dot Branning, played by the late June Brown.

It saw Ian watch the funeral from afar before picking up the phone to a mystery caller – who Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw confirmed fans already know the identity of.

But if that wasn't enough, fans were sent into meltdown one day later when Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) made an epic comeback more than two years after his emotional exit.

Keanu was last seen leaving the square following his explosive showdown with Phil Mitchell which resulted in the death of Sharon Watt's son, Dennis.

Fans believe Ian and Keanu's return has perfectly paved the way for Max Branning to make an epic comeback to the BBC soap.

The second major clue that fans picked up on was the regular mention of Max during Tuesday's episode by his daughter, Lauren Branning who also returned for Dot's funeral.

While chatting to Jack and Denise, Lauren confessed Max had been up to his old tricks after she caught him in bed with her best friend.

Lauren, played by Jacqueline Jossa, mentioned Max being with baby Abi before calling Linda "a cow" for breaking her dad's heart.

After spotting the clues, fans took to social media to speculate his pending return.

One user theorized: "Ian last night, Keanu tonight. Max will probably be a surprise comeback before the end of the week at this rate! # EastEnders."

"The max mentions in tonight’s episode [eyes emoji]," added a second as another user penned: "Max branning mentions? #EastEnders."

"Max is definitely coming back on Christmas Day," echoed a fourth.

While someone else shared: "Oh, it was keanu… i thought it was going to be someone like max."
