EastEnders' Kellie Bright reveals devastating cancer blow in emotional Instagram post about her family | The Sun

EASTENDERS star Kellie Bright has revealed two of her young cousins are battling leukaemia.

The actress – best known for playing Linda Carter on the soap – shared the heartbreaking news in an Instagram post today after visiting the hospital alongside her co-star Danny Dyer.


Katie May has acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and in an extremely cruel and rare situation, her younger brother Myles has also been fighting it for two years.

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is a type of cancer that affects white blood cells. According to the NHS, it progresses quickly and aggressively and requires immediate treatment.

Raising awareness about the pair, Kellie told fans she hopes they will be home for Christmas.

In a moving message, she shared:  “Hey everyone, Happy Christmas I hope you are all getting to spend time with your loved ones.

“I want to introduce you to my little cousin @katie_mayy.x who is currently battling acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL)

“Here she is with all the wonderful nurses on the T12 (teenage cancer) ward at UCHL.

“This picture was actually taken back in September before Katie started her treatment. Danny and I went to say hi to her and all the other amazing young people on the ward (not to mention the nurses that are HEROES!!)

“Katie has a little brother Myles, who is also undergoing treatment for ALL. He is nearly two years in.”

She continued: “It’s almost unheard of for siblings to have the same leukaemia as there is not supposed to be any genetic link.

“As you can imagine, it’s been really hard for them as a family to just keep going…. I am SO in awe of them and the courage they have shown (not just Myles and Katie, but mum and dad, nanna and grandad…) we are all keeping our fingers crossed that they will both be at home for Christmas.”

Kellie added: “Feel free to send some love to Katie (she knows I am posting this) and spare a thought for those who are battling cancer this Christmas or just praying that their children will be well enough to enjoy it. Festive hugs and love to each and everyone of you.”

Kellie is currently part of a huge Christmas storyline on EastEnders, which will see her on screen husband Mick (played by Danny Dyer) exit the soap in dramatic scenes.
