EastEnders star ‘quits after four years’ as BBC show airs another exit

EastEnders star Tanya Franks is set to quit the BBC soap after four years in this week’s episodes.

The soap actress plays Rainie Cross who fans will see leave Albert Square with her baby Roland.

Rainie's marriage to Stuart Highway has been in trouble since the birth of their son, as Stuart has suffered with post-natal depression. As the couple worked to sort out their issues, Stuart made the decision to give Roland to his surrogate mother, Bernie.

Rainie was devastated by Stuart's decision and Bernie was growing tired of looking after baby Roland, so Bernie gave Rainie an ultimatum to encourage her to prioritise her baby over her marriage.

She tells her: “I shouldn’t be the only one putting Roland first. You do not get to make him suffer because your marriage is falling apart.”

Rainie was torn between staying with Stuart and taking the offer, before she realised Bernie was right and let loose how she really felt about Stuart’s actions.

Stuart encourages her to take Bernie’s deal and leave him, but Rainie gives him one last chance to join her and live with his son.

If he does not, she threatens to leave Watford for good. While Rainie holds out hope, Stuart doesn’t arrive at Bernie and Mitch’s to join his family.

“The most important thing now is my innocent little boy,” Rainie tells her upset co-stars, “Your faces, I’ll be fine.”

Before she climbs into a cab with her little one and leaves… for good.

The Sun reported that this exit will be the end of Tanya’s time on the show after four years in her role on the soap.

It comes after several other actors have departed from the long-running series such as Maddy Hill who played Nancy Carter left just last week.
