Emmerdale fans have been counting down the days until the ITV soap marks the milestone on Sunday, October 16. A windstorm is due to rip through the Yorkshire Dales just as Kim Tate (played by Claire King) gets ready to tie the knot with Will Taylor (Dean Andrews), and the whole village is set to be impacted by the terrifying natural disaster. Producer Jane Hudson has now confirmed characters will be exiting the show in the wake of the destruction.
Jane revealed this summer the 50th-anniversary episodes would be centred around a catastrophic storm which takes villagers by complete surprise.
With the anniversary instalments airing in a matter of weeks, Jane has opened up a little more about what ITV viewers can expect.
She told Express.co.uk and other media on Thursday it was a real honour to be in charge of Emmerdale at this time.
Jane teased: “It is a rollercoaster of emotion and there is a visual input which will blow more than your socks off, put it that way.”
“There are deaths, there’s destruction, but there’s also real moments of intimacy, heartbreak and love,” she hinted.
“We are going to see our characters tested, in not just their physical strength but their emotional strength as well.
“There’s going to be a lot of tears, I must warn you about that, and we will see our community deal with the aftermath of this horrific storm.”
Jane explained how the month of drama started with the return of Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) who jumped to his half-sister Liv Flaherty’s (Isobel Steele) defence after she was attacked.
Just days later, he learned of his mother Chas Dingle’s (Lucy Pargeter) affair with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) and was furious she had betrayed her husband Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) who he sees as a father figure.
Another storyline is Faith Dingle’s (Sally Dexter) “incredibly sad” death following her battle with cancer.
Faith has been living with terminal cancer for months and does not have much longer left to live.
Reflecting on the upcoming storm plot, Jane teased: “We will go into our storm which has got more than one stunt across the week, and just when you think things can’t get any worse around Emmerdale characters, it really does.
“We end the month on a really big bang which propels us well into the New Year.”
Jane was unable to give any more information away about which characters will be leaving the soap.
Liv is tipped to be exiting the ITV soap this month, so perhaps she will tragically die in the horrendous storm.
Her husband Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) would be left heartbroken if she dies as the pair have been hoping to have a baby together.
“She feels like she’s done all she can at Emmerdale and wants to focus on her music career and make a real go of it,” a source told The Sun about Liv actress Isobel.
“Bosses have pulled out all the stops for the 50th anniversary month and Isobel’s exit will be no different.
“Viewers are going to be on the edge of their seats as it all plays out and Liv is killed off.”
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
