Emmerdale: Laurel and Jai’s baby gets Down’s syndrome diagnosis

In official spoilers released by ITV, Jai Sharma’s (played by Chris Bisson) family is set to be torn apart after he discovers a family secret.

In upcoming scenes in Emmerdale, Jai tries to book a family holiday, but things take an unexpected turn when he books the honeymoon suite.

However, his love Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) sees it as a sign and ends up asking Jai to marry her.

With her proposal delightfully accepted, they happily discuss the correct order to tell people their news.

However, Jai soon realises he needs to retrieve his divorce certificate in order to get wed and so heads to his dad’s to find his legal documents.

During his search, Jai dislodges the contents of an old box and discovers an official document among the miscellanea, and after a closer look, he sees something is not right.

The next day, Jai is still deeply upset regarding his discovery and loses his temper at work.

As an ex-addict, Laurel is worried about how he may react and implores him to talk to his parents.

When rambling Rishi Sharma (Bhasker Patel) arrives, he is oblivious until Jai explodes with anger, revealing he knows the secret Rishi has been hiding for all these years.

Jai is incredulous at his dad’s weak explanation and he knows Rishi is clearly lying through his teeth and fails to tell his son the truth.

The next day, when Jai discovers Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) has known the secret since their marriage, he’s furious and forces his father away.

However, will Jai be able to forgive Rishi for whatever he has done? Or will their family be torn apart for good?

Speaking exclusively with Express.co.uk and other press, the actor who plays Jai opened up about his storyline.

He began: “Jai goes to find these divorce certificates and knocks over a box and finds some old photographs, and also contained within that box is a long, very long-standing secret, one that’s life-changing for Jai.

“He had no indication…no idea that anything like this could possibly happen to him.

“His dad and his mum have been keeping this secret for many years and he is taken aback by it and doesn’t know how to compute it.

“Then he starts to think a bit more about it and gets more and more angry really because he’s been deceived.”

He added: “I’m not sure that things will ever be the same between Jai and Rishi or Jai and his parents, I should say.

“But if they tell him the truth then he’s got more chance of coming to terms with the revelations.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV.
