Emmerdale’s Holly Barton, played by Sophie Powles, made her first appearance on the show in 2009 as part of the Barton family.

Holly was Moira’s daughter and she tragically passed away after an overdose in 2016.

During her final scenes, Moira attempted to wake up her 25-year-old daughter and prepare her for the day ahead, but after she received no response, she quickly realised that she had died.

Holly was a beloved character with a history of drug abuse and some of her major storylines included drug dealing, stealing money for drugs and babysitting Viv’s children whilst high.

She left the show in 2012 when her storyline saw her move to London but returned in 2016 where she began stealing.

Pregnancy

The star announced that she was pregnant in summer 2021 and now has a beautiful child with her partner Mark Waters.

The couple landed on a very unique name for their new arrival.

She shared the news on Instagram with a picture of her daughter’s leg and wrote in the caption: “Nearly a month ago our little girl joined us. Marli Ocean Waters, you are magic. Photo by dad.”

Mark shared the same sweet snap on his profile and added: “Marli Ocean Waters, I can’t believe I get to be your dad. I will spend the rest of my life showing you how much I love you. Your mum is pretty cool too.”

Career

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many talented performers in the entertainment industry were forced to put their careers on the back burner whilst social distancing and lockdown procedures were in place.

She shared her woes with her fans after she had previously moved to London to “further pursue her acting career”.

The actress, who took a job at High Mood Food in Chelsea, said: “Eventually, I realised the lessons I was learning. To just find happiness in the everyday and the people you have around you.”

She noted that she was grateful for “simply waking up and being healthy” and tried to see the positive in “breaking the habit” of waiting for an acting job for happiness.

Hobbies

Sophie and her partner are big fans of the great outdoors and her Instagram is flooded with images from their travels.

She loves a good hike, trips to the seaside and has recently travelled around South Africa.

The actress even announced her pregnancy with a picture from a trip to the beach, in which her bulging bump can be seen as she tried to take a snap of the sea’s horizon.

Powles has also supported her partner with his recent project called Tictoc, a film about a 16-year-old boy with Tourettes.

Mark, who is a photographer, regularly updates his profile with pictures of their life and adventures together.

She also writes poems for her pal’s publication The Happy Newspaper and often covers themes of mental health and happiness.
