James May sparks concern after crashing into wall at high speed

The new series of The Grand Tour is back on Amazon Prime, and it is safe to say filming didn’t go as smoothly as the presenters had hoped. In the first episode of series five, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond were given the task of driving at high speed through a tunnel in Norway. While Jeremy and Richard managed to get to the end unscathed, poor James wasn’t as lucky.
The 59-year-old was clearly shaken up as he crashed his car into a wall at high speed.
The trio were racing through an unlit tunnel at an old naval base when the incident unfolded.
Poor James lost control of his yellow Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 8 and ended up getting rushed to hospital.
When Jeremy had reached the end of the tunnel, Richard could be heard asking: “How was it?”
“You’re not going to enjoy it,” the presenter simply hit back.
It was James’ turn next and things started out well, although as he reached the end he lost control and crashed sideways into a wall.
“It’s a big one,” Jeremy can be heard saying as he rushed to his co-star’s aid.
“Let’s get the medics,” a member of the crew can be heard shouting as James stumbled out of the car with a bloodied nose.
“Are you alright to step out?” the medic asked before adding: “I need to get an ambulance in to check you out.”
As Richard asked what had happened, Jeremy recalled how the accident unfolded.
“I saw his head clobber the side of the pillar,” he said. “He went flying.
“He went in sideways into this wall.”
In the ambulance, viewers could hear James wincing in pain, telling the paramedics: “It hurts on the back of my back.”
“How you feeling?” Jeremy asked as James simply replied: “A bit s**t. The car is f****d, isn’t it?”
Making light of the situation, the former Top Gear host joked: “You won’t be driving it out of here.”
“Well done for not dying,” Richard joked as James confirmed he’d not broken any bones.
Fans have also taken to Twitter to share their concern about James, with Charles Masefield tweeting: “That car crash made me shudder just watching it. I hope you’re fully recovered.”
“That James May crash was horrible,” Alex wrote as user @JustifyR_ added: “Watching @MrJamesMay crash the Evo hurt me, more than it hurt his ribs.”
Alison penned: “Absolutely brilliant new episode of GT, laughed so much my ribs hurt too !, Mr May so glad you managed to continue after crash.”
“That crash took a year off my life man,” Cody Baker went on to say.
