Faith Dingle (played by Sally Dexter) has been trying to live her final days to the full on the ITV soap following her terminal cancer diagnosis. On Wednesday night’s instalment of the serial drama, Faith summoned the courage to tell Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) that she has always loved him. While she expects nothing from him in return, could the former flames reignite their spark?

Faith, who used to be in a relationship with Eric before cheating on him, has come to the realisation he was the one who got away.

With only a matter of months left to live, Faith decided to tell Eric she still loved him on the ITV soap this week.

As she turned up on his doorstep donning a bright yellow coat and her signature voluminous updo, Eric said: “Well this is a nice surprise.”

He asked her if she wanted to come inside for a cup of tea, but she declined before telling him how she felt.

“I just wanted to have a quick word,” she said in a panic as Eric noticed she was looking “flushed”.

“Can you just shut up and let me say what I came to say?” Faith snapped.

“I haven’t got time for politeness,” she added. “I have been thinking about you a lot.

“I bet you haven’t been kicking yourself thinking how things would have been if we had been a proper couple and spent our lives together.”

He was left open-mouthed when she added: “I love you, I never said it when we were together but I am saying it now while I still have the chance.

“You don’t have to pretend. You are a wonderful man and you always made me feel so special and I am so grateful to have had you in my life.”

“I’m the lucky one, Faith Dingle you are an incredible woman,” he replied as he started to well up.

Faith said she was glad he had Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) in his life to look after him when she dies and gave him a heartwarming hug.

Could Faith’s romantic admission cause Eric to have a change of heart?

Does he feel the same way about Faith deep down and will he decide to call it quits with Brenda?

Will he buy an engagement ring for Faith and propose to her in the coming weeks on the ITV soap?

He knows she is terminally ill but there may still be time to get married if they can use St Mary’s Church soon.

The rest of the Dingle family is bound to attend the ceremony and be happy for Faith and Eric.

It was a bold move for Faith to tell Eric how she really felt about him, but it is a decision she probably won’t regret.

Would Faith say, ‘I do’ if Eric popped the big question in upcoming scenes on the Yorkshire-based drama?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV.
