Emmerdale’s Mackenzie star reveals storyline that ‘breaks soap boundaries’ in new scenes

Emmerdale stars Emma Atkins and Lawrence Robb, who portray on-screen couple Charity Dingle and Mackenzie Boyd, have revealed details on their upcoming storyline which will "break soap boundaries."

The characters are meant to be in newlywed bliss after tying the knot last month, but are set for turmoil as Charity will finally learn the truth over her new husband's unfaithful escapades.

In true soap style, chaos will begin to unfold over a secret lovechild. Chloe (Jessie Elland) gave birth to a baby son named Reuben in recent weeks, with the father being Mackenzie – who she had a one-night stand with last year.

And in the upcoming scenes, Chloe and Mackenzie will thankfully find out that Reuben has no signs of brain damage, after previous worries that he may have a brain bleed – leading to permanent damage.

The parents are relieved to learn the news, with Mackenzie joining Chloe as he cradles his baby son in the hospital. But as Charity, who has no idea that her husband is Reuben's father, decides to pay Chloe a visit in the hospital – she will finally put the pieces together.

Seeing her husband with the little one, Charity figures out the situation and decides to keep it to herself, explains actress Emma during a chat with The Express.

She teases: "Yeah, it's interesting as there's a moment in the village where we bump into each other and Mackenzie doesn't know that Charity knows. And that is magical. That's what I loved."

Mackenzie actor Lawrence says of the story line: "Hopefully we've done it justice, but I don't think it's ever been done in soap before, what we did."

"It just breaks a few of the boundaries of normal soap filming," Emma added.

Elsewhere in the Yorkshire Dales, Mandy Dingle is set to finally make a huge decision on her relationship with Paddy Kirk.

Although the much-loved pair briefly rekindled after their relationship, it appears that Mandy still isn't convinced that Paddy is ready to commit.

Following a struggle with his mental health, after the breakdown of his marriage to Chas Dingle when he discovered she was having an affair, Paddy has been taking things one step at a time as he continues his journey to recovery.

But he worries that he's giving former wife Mandy false hope when she invites him for lunch.

Mandy then offers Paddy the reassurance he's looking for, telling him he's dealing with his grief in a healthy way. Things start to heat up between the two with a passionate kiss.

As the moment grows intimate however, Mandy then admits she isn't sure how to handle the situation and worries they're making a mistake by rushing into things.

The following day, the pair meet and Mandy finally puts an end to their connection, despite her strong feelings for Paddy.
