ESCAPE to the Chateau's Dick Strawbridge has conceded that buying a massive 45-bedroom home without an apprioriate budget was 'silly' as the show aired it's final episode.

Dick Strawbridge ,63 and Angel Adoree, 44 have entertained Channel 4 viewers who have followed their renovation journey with their 19th Century French chateau for several years.


Escape to the Chateau recently finished with its ninth series, but the couple revealed they originally thought the idea of purchasing the chateau in the middle of winter was "silly". 

The couple purchased Château de la Motte-Husson for £280,000 back in 2015 when it had no heating or sewage system installed. 

The property has 45 bedrooms, that all needed some serious work done to them when the couple first purchased the rundown building.

The loveable Channel 4 pair took on the challenge of renovating the French property in 2016 – with it now becoming a scenic wedding venue.

Although Dick and Angel have transformed most of the building – there's still a lot of work that needs to be done and it's definitely not complete.

The couple opened up to Radio Times about their initial thoughts on buying an abandoned chateau. 

Dick, admitted he first thought: "This is silly, isn’t it?!"

Angel chimed in: "Why would anyone do this?

"Unless we had a budget four times what we had, we had to have a doer-upper. We knew we had years of hard work."

Even though the pair knew they clearly had their work cut out for them, they soldiered through with transforming the property.

When asked what running a business together is like, Dick exclaimed: "Angela is bossy! Business-wise, Angela has the reins. 

The couple now live there with their young children Dorothy and Arhtur.

Fans were devastated after the popular Channel 4 programme aired its final ever episode on Sunday.
