Eurovision host’s subtle dig 2023 entries’ vocal abilities

Breakfast hosts point out Eurovision ‘royal blunder’

Eurovision is the biggest musical competition in the world with acts from around the continent ready to give it all they’ve got to represent their home countries.

Ukraine took home the crown last year with the band Kalush Stefania in Turin, Italy with UK’s Sam Ryder coming in second place.

Due to the ongoing Russian-Ukraine conflict, it was decided early on that Eurovision would instead be hosted by the UK for safety reasons.

This is the first time in 25 years that Eurovision has been to this country, last seen in Birmingham after Katrina and the Waves’ victory with Love Shine A Light the previous year.

As well as fans being excited for the annual contest making its way to the UK, so are its hosts.

DJ Scott Mills, who will be on the presenting team alongside Rylan and Mel Giedroyc, is already up to mischief – giving a subtle jibe to those about to take to the stage.

Speaking to press, including Express.co.uk, Scott said: “We all absolutely love it and they’re [Giedroyc and Clark] both the same.

“It’s so much fun and I think the days of being snide about Eurovision, that’s gone.

“You’re allowed to have fun and to laugh at some of it because that’s what it’s there for.”

“But there’s some really good songs, pretty much everyone can sing,” he jabbed.

“It’s such a different contest, even from when we started working there in 2011, it’s just got bigger and bigger and bigger.”

Alongside Mills on the presenting team, comedian and talk show host Graham Norton will return as a commentator, joined by Giedroyc.

Alesha Dixon and Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham will also be on hand for the main event’s proceedings.

In honour of Ukraine, broadcaster Timur Miroshnychenko and singer Julia Sanina will complete the line-up.

Odds for who is going to win are already being released prior to the competition kicking off.

According to Eurovision World, Sweden has the best chances currently of winning the show.

The country is then followed by Finland, Norway, France, Spain, Italy and Ukraine.

The Eurovision Song Contest final airs on Saturday, May 13, at 8pm on BBC One.
