Fiona Phillips’ husband ‘felt sick’ and ‘sat in silence’ after Alzheimer’s news
Fiona Phillips opens up about her Alzheimer's diagnosis
Fiona Phillips’ husband, This Morning boss Martin Frizell, has recalled the devastating moment his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
“I just felt sick,” he explained to The Mirror. “We both sat in silence. There was no funny line to make this go away. Nothing smart to say. Nothing.
“And then the doctor said he’d leave us in the room alone for a bit to digest it all. We just looked at each other and said, ‘S**t. What are we going to do?'”
Fionna added: “It was the shock. Total shock. And then we said to each other, ‘Shall we go and have a drink?’ so that’s what we did.”
She said they have “become locals at the pub on the square by the hospital”.

Fiona had been suffering from symptoms such as brain fog and anxiety ahead of her diagnosis which she and Martin thought was part of the menopause.
She explained she is on a trial drug which Martin injects into her stomach and it could slow the progression down if it ends up being successful.
The 62-year-old former GMTV host admitted she did not expect to be diagnosed with the illness until she reached her eighties.

Fiona was informed about her illness 18 months ago, admitting: “This disease has ravaged my family and now it has come for me.”
“And all over the country there are people of all different ages whose lives are being affected by it – it’s heartbreaking,” she added.
“I just hope I can help find a cure which might make things better for others in the future.”
Celebrities have rallied their support around Fiona and her family at this difficult time.
Fiona’s pal Holly Willoughby described the situation as “extra cruel and sad” due to the fact several family members have all suffered from the disease.
Speaking on This Morning, Holly said: “Let’s send our love to Fiona, and I know that so many kind messages have come through the show for them, and I know they feel very overwhelmed with the support they’ve been getting so thank you.”
Meanwhile, former This Morning host Eamonn Holmes told GB News viewers: “I think of my own wife… her father died, and her mother has to live with it at the moment and anybody who’s in that situation will be thinking, is it coming to me next? We wish Fiona all the best.”
