Gogglebox stars clash over Matt Hancock on I’m A Celebrity as Jenny Newby defends him

Gogglebox star Jenny Newby has outraged viewers after seemingly defending I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestant Matt Hancock.

The former Health Minister, 44, made a controversial entrance to the jungle on November 10 and it wasn't long before his campmates began questioning his time in government.

The clip shown on Channel 4's Gogglebox saw DJ Chris Moyles and newsreader Charlene White grill Hancock over his 'mistakes'.

However, Jenny, 66, appeared to be having none of it.

She told viewing partner Lee Riley, 52, that he "wasn't the killer" and it was in fact Covid.

"He wasn't the killer, Covid was the killer," stated the 66 year old.

Lee responded: "He was the health secretary at the time."

But Jenny wasn't finished and urged one of the celebs to 'stick up' for him, saying: "Someone stick up for him for God's sake."

Lee fired back: "Shut up, you!"

Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to slam the TV star with one viewer described how "disgusted" they were with Jenny.

They wrote: "Disgusted in Jenny. Obviously, she didn't lose anybody and she didn't have the heartache of not saying goodbye to her loved ones. Jenny, I'm so disappointed in her."

A second person added: "Not having Jenny empathising with Hancock one jot…"

And a third person tweeted: "Jenny has just gone way down in my estimation. Defending Matt Hancock??!!"

During his rather public grilling at the hands of his new campmates, Hancock explained that he did not break the law – only his own "guidelines" when he kissed Gina Coladangelo.

But he said he only did so because he "fell in love".

He also revealed to Chris, who has since been labelled as 'two faced', that he had just released a book about his time as Health Secretary, titled "Pandemic Diaries".

Lee was immediately cynical. He said: "So he's gone in there to promote his book!"

Meanwhile, Joe in Glasgow asked: "Is this a parody?"

But it wasn't long before those who criticised Hancock were treated to watching the MP gorge on fish eyeballs, a camel's penis and a sheep's vagina.

However, their joy didn't last long as he managed to eat each course without too much bother.

Lee said: "This is disappointing this, I wanted him to cry. Well, I'm f*****g voting for him again tonight, that's for definite."

And Giles Wood went as far as calling Hancock a "good sport".
