Grand Designs’ ‘saddest ever’ house WILL be sold in ‘matter of weeks’ after mystery buyer swooped in for £10m home | The Sun

GRAND Designs' "saddest ever" house will be sold in a "matter of weeks" after a mystery buyer swooped in for the £10million home.

The house first appeared on the Channel 4 show and was dubbed Britain's "saddest ever" episode after its owner revealed he lost his marriage and ended up £7million in debt during construction.

Over the years, Edward Short has battled to complete the project he started in 2010 and managed to create a stunning property against all odds.

The house was finally put on the market for £10 million in July last year.

However, despite its luxurious finish and expected "global interest", the mansion is yet to find luck on the market – even after rumours of celebrity buyers.

But now the grand home's curse could well be over after the coastal property was removed from Knight Frank website.

Viewers were told "terms of a sale" were being discussed with a "serious buyer" with a sale expected in a matter of weeks, reports the Express.

Nic Chbat, Director of Match Property estate agents in North Devon who has been assisting the owners with marketing and sourcing buyers, claimed that the reason the sale had stalled was simply due to the agreed sale timescale "expiring".

Speaking to the Express, he said: “As far as I am aware the previous buyer is still wanting to buy the property as a whole including the Eye, but the agreed timescale for the sale to conclude has expired.

“This is simply due to delays verifying that some agreed works on site have been concluded. This is in hand and will be verified in due course, at which point we expect the sale to go ahead.”

Nic added: “Understandably, we are discussing options with other interested parties in the interim which includes the potential to sell the Eye separately, as previously reported.

“It is normal for any sale to go through some delays and uncertainties as the sale progresses through the legal conveyancing and this sale is no different to any other in that regard.

“There is no doubt the sale will go through, hopefully with the current buyer, and if not, with another interested party in due course.”

Edward Short began the "nightmare" project in 2010, with an 18-month plan to complete the coastal mansion – but by 2019 Kevin McCloud described it as the “carcass” of a seashore wreckage.

Edward had racked up so much debt that he lost his marriage.

The news comes after another buyer pulled out of the million-pound sale.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Edward told of intel that the house had caught the eye of Michael Jackson’s former bodyguard Matt Fiddes.

Multi-millionaire martial arts businessman Fiddes was reported to have put in a £7.5 million bid in 2021.
