Grey’s Anatomy has been on air since 2005 and throughout its 19-season run on ABC it’s common for fans to see a revolving door of cast members leaving the show.
This was the case for Isaiah Washington after he stepped away from his role as Dr Preston Burke, a cardiothoracic surgeon in 2007.
Although his portrayal awarded him two AACP Image Awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award, he was fired from the show after multiple alleged altercations with his cast mates.
On Friday, Washington made several accusations about his time on Grey’s Anatomy against his former cast members and production.
In a lengthy tweet, he wrote: “Hmmm…I wonder if I should tweet about the rampant alcohol and drugs used amongst my fellow cast mates and Producers of Grey’s Anatomy and all of the swingers parties that took place?”
Alongside a photo of his character, he continued: “I remained clean for three years and declined the after-hours hot tub invites.
“Because I was convinced that I would lose my contract with a urine analysis at any moment and lose my dear wife if I got in that woman’s hot tub. I wonder…”
In 2007, the Dr Burke star was fired after his reported use of homophobic slurs and remarks directed at his former co-star TR Knight.
He later issued an apology in a public statement in People Magazine, which read: “I sincerely regret my actions and the unfortunate use of words during the recent incident on-set.

“Both are beneath my own personal standards. … I have nothing but respect for my co-workers … and have apologized personally to everyone involved.”
However, Washington later backed down in 2020 and explained why chose to publicly apologise.
Speaking on the Fox Nation series, Isaiah Washington: Kitchen Talk, he claimed: “The story was a lie and misconstrued.
“But as a family guy, a father, I thought I was helping the family.”
Washington has previously spoken out about how being fired affected his career, in 2014 he told I Am Entertainment: “I don’t worry about whether or not the stories I tell will destroy my acting career because you can’t take away something that doesn’t exist.
“They killed the actor [in me] on June 7, 2007.”
Despite this, Washington reprised his role as Dr Burke in 2014, as Christina Yang’s (Sandra Oh) former love interest, it was revealed he moved to Switzerland after their break up.
He offered Yang a new job away from Seattle with the promise of amazing technology and 3D printers.
