Sarah Ferguson praises Americans for being ‘welcoming’

In a bid for more privacy, royal couple Prince Harry and Meghan Markle emigrated to America three years ago, While many have criticised the pair’s decision to leave behind their Royal Family duties, Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson defended their decision to start a new life in the “welcoming” USA. Appearing on Thursday’s (March 30) This Morning, the royal explained the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been given “a second chance” across the Pond.

“Fergie” joined Holly Willoughby and Joel Dommett on ITV’s This Morning, where she was asked about the pair who have been dominating royal headlines for a few years.

Joel commented: “You were welcomed with open arms when you went to America, would you say you sort of understand why Prince Harry went to America himself?”

“I think I am American,” Sarah remarked before adding: “I think that the Americans give people second chances.

“I think they gave me an amazing chance… well, they still do. And I love being there.

“And I wish Harry and Meghan and the family the best of luck there.”

Continuing, the royal, who was once married to Prince Andrew, went on to say: “And it is extraordinary how welcoming the Americans are.

The Duchess joined the programme to talk about her new romance novel, A Most Intriguing Lady.

“It’s your second novel, you said it’s Jane Austen meets Peakly Blindrs with a little bit of 50 Shades… and I thought, ‘Yes!’,” Holly enthused.

“And throw in a bit of Mr Darcy coming out of the lake,” Sarah added.

She continued: “It’s very exciting, and I think with literally every page I’ve thrown a dream and a wish.”

Fergie went on to address “standing by” Prince Andrew, explaining: “Beatrice, Eugenie, and I are a family unit.

“And they’re public figures, they’re extraordinary examples of princesses out in service, which is what their grandmother taught them.”
