After an explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have returned to screens to shed more light on their relationship and struggles with the Royal Family. The revelations have clearly struck a chord with audiences, as the series is on track to become one of Netflix’s biggest-ever hits.
Harry and Meghan has become one of Netflix’s biggest shows of 2022 in the UK having only just released its first three episodes on Thursday, December 8.
The first episode of the six-part miniseries has recorded 2.4 million views on Smart TV devices so far.
Episode two reached 1.5 million streams, with episode three achieving 800,000 in the first two days of release.
The latest data comes from independently audited figures supplied by overnights.tv [via Deadline].
This surpasses the previous record set by The Crown’s season five premiere earlier this year.
The fictionalised royal drama pulled in just 1.1 million streams for its opening episode.
Netflix’s bombshell documentary has more than doubled that figure after just 24 hours, cementing its status as one of the streamer’s biggest successes of 2022.
Although the release of the series was met with backlash from the Sussexes’ critics, their story has clearly amassed huge interest across the UK.
Throughout the first few episodes, both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, along with family members and friends, gave their insight into the pair’s romance.
In one instance, Meghan has drawn criticism for detailing how she curtseyed during her first meeting with the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Elsewhere, Harry addressed his own “unconscious bias” when it came to race and branded the Nazi costume he wore to a part when he was 20 as “the biggest mistake” of his life.
Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland also claimed she was “stalked” by paparazzi when it was announced her daughter and Prince Harry had begun their romance.
