Holly Willoughby ‘faked friendliness’ with Ruth Langsford in ‘awkward’ exchange

This Morning: Holly talks to Ruth Langsford ahead of Loose Women

Holly Willoughby made a return to This Morning on Monday after taking an extended break from her hosting duties.

She was joined by Josie Gibson in the studio who stepped in to replace Phillip Schofield.

However, during the Loose Women link, some viewers noticed some “awkwardness” between Holly and Ruth Langsford.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, body language expert Adrianne Carter agreed with viewers.

She believed Holly was “faking friendliness” with her ITV co-star.

Adrianne said: “Holly’s voice tone lifts to a higher pitch as she talks to Ruth – this is often a sign of stress or faking an emotion.

“In this case, I think she’s faking friendliness.”

Fans also took to Twitter in droves on Monday to pick up on the frostiness between Ruth and Holly.

@EARNER1 said: “I don’t know how Ruth Langsford keeps a straight face when Holly Willoughby speaks to her when introducing Loose Women #Thismorning.”

@Lucieno74 said: “Wow Holly having to crossover to Ruth on #loosewomen, considering how Ruth’s husband has been sniping about Holly, that must of been awkward #thismorning.” (sic)

@Poppyblew pointed out: “Ruth and Holly. #awkward #loosewomen.”

While @magawk added: “Holly Willoughby handing over to Ruth on Loose Women… #ThisMorning.”

The awkwardness may have been sparked after Ruth’s husband Eamonn Holme made his views known about Phillip’s exit from This Morning.

The GB News host has also been very vocal about Holly taking an extended break from the show.

During Tuesday’s instalment of Breakfast with Eamonn and Isabel, Eamonn took aim at his former ITV colleagues by praising how good Josie was as co-host.

When discussing Holly’s return, Eamonn shared: “The star of the show for me yesterday was Josie Gibson.

“Josie Gibson, it was lovely to hear her Westcountry accent, wasn’t it?”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
