Five explosive Hollyoaks spoilers for this week

"What about his need for a transplant?" a third fan jumped in.

Another echoed: "Does he not need a kidney transplant anymore?"

Walter made his first appearance in the show in 2018 and was introduced as a deeply-religious character.

But, over the years, the shopkeeper grew more tolerant of his neighbours, particularly after his grandson Mitchell Deveraux (played by Imran Adams) came out as gay.

In recent weeks, Walter was hesitant when Pearl Anderson (Dawn Hope) offered to fly him to Jamaica.

Walter had been preoccupied that his family was in "disarray" as he noticed issues between Felix Westwood (Richard Blackwood) and his son DeMarcus (Tomi Ade).

But he overheard Felix speak to DeMarcus about why he wanted to take antidepressants.

Felix encouraged the youngster to see a therapist before accepting treatment, underlining the fact it could help him decide if the medication was right for him.

Walter listened in and, before long, recognised that his son-in-law didn't need his supervision anymore.

After admitting to Felix how proud he was of the man he had become, Walter waved an emotional goodbye to Chester.
