Im A Celeb fans gutted over All Stars series change to iconic bushtucker trials

I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! fans have been left disappointed as the South African series kicked off, with one key change meaning that viewers won't be able to vote on who should participate in the iconic bushtucker trials.

The new all-star series, titled I'm A Celebrity… South Africa, sees a number of previous campmates return to the show and was pre-recorded during September 2022, meaning that it will take a slightly different format to usual.

As the show kicked off on Monday (24 April) fans took to Twitter to share their upset at the change, with one writing: "Why is #ImACeleb pre-recorded? i'm confused? The public like getting involved, voting for people to do challenges etc."

"Really can't see the point of this #imaceleb in South Africa if it's all pre-recorded, no voting," added another.

And a third wrote: "Gutted we don’t get to vote for trials I have a feeling who would win that vote #ImACeleb", while a fourth said: "What is the point of #ImACeleb if it’s not live and you can’t vote the weakest links to do the trials, pray tell."

However, some viewers shared that they weren't against the change, with one arguing: "Kind of prefer it not being live because it means the Great British Public won’t be voting the same wimp to do trials every single night."

Another tweeted: "I know people ain’t happy with the No public voting or it being pre recorded but I’m so excited for #ImACeleb South Africa!!"

The line-up of returning campmates was confirmed prior to the show's launch, with those taking part including Carol Vorderman, former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan, and former royal butler Paul Burrell.

In a pre-show interview, Helen discussed her previous jungle experience, as she said: "I did the jungle when I was 22. And now I’m 32. Obviously, you change, you’re such a different person within 10 years.

"I really wanted to set myself the challenge of doing it. I’m A Celebrity is such an iconic show and it’s so flattering to be asked back."

Meanwhile, Paul, who finished runner-up in the 2004 series of the show, explained: "I loved doing it the first time around and to be asked again is very special."

He added: "It's like coming into the final of the jungle Olympics. I had to eat kangaroo testicles in Australia, and I am expecting everything to be bigger in South Africa."

Paul was quick to note that things would be "different" this time around as he is a "different person now". Adding further context, he explained: "I was a married guy with two kids, and now 19 years on, I am a married man again, but this time around, I have a husband."
