Emmerdale: Sam Dingle gets impaled by a tractor

Emmerdale’s Sam Dingle (played by James Hooton) has taken a back seat in the ITV soap lately.

However, in recent scenes, the Dingle favourite sparked health fears after he found a lump in his testicle.

Luckily for Sam, doctor Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) told him it was a nasty boil and could be treated easily.

He was also involved in a dramatic storyline earlier this year as part of the soap’s 50th anniversary.

Sam was left close to death after a spike went through his shoulder during the bad storm which swept the village.

However, it was in 1995 that James was cast as Sam Dingle in Emmerdale.

The actor took a break from the soap for two years and returned to the village in 2000, where he has remained a staple ever since.

Outside of filming, James enjoys cooking, climbing and spending time with his family.

He is engaged to his fiancée Nancy Lucas, who runs a dance company called Total Dance.

The couple got engaged in 2010 on Valentine’s Day and also share two daughters together – Lily and Ava-Rose.

The Sam Dingle star is very active on social media and often shares pictures and videos of himself climbing.

He also posts snaps of his partner and children, as well as his past and present Emmerdale co-stars.

James paid a sweet tribute to Kelvin Fletcher, who played Andy Sugden in the soap, after his win on Strictly Come Dancing.

While in 2020, he marked his 25-year anniversary in Emmerdale with a selfie of his onscreen family.

He wrote on Instragram: “A lovely night last night. A surprise gathering to commemorate 25yrs since I started on @emmerdale
I was gifted a personally inscribed silver Bangle and a bottle of whisky bottled in 1995-the year I first joined the cast of the show! And my presence was graced by my lovely Emmerdale Fam. Bliss x x x.” (sic)
