Jane McDonald says British Soap Awards is her dream job as she stuns in red gown

Jane McDonald oozed glamour as she stepped in to host the British Soap Awards and proved she was more than ready for the role.

The TV icon, 60, stepped in at the last minute to replace former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield as host for the British Soap Awards 2023 after he stepped down from ITV.

The lavish soiree on Saturday evening saw soap stars from Emmerdale, Coronation Street, EastEnders, Hollyoaks and Doctors glam up to celebrate the best and brightest talent from the past year.

Dazzling outfits from our favourite TV stars dominated the red carpet, including Jane who was dressed to impress in an off-the-shoulder velvet gown.

British Soap Awards host Jane said it was her “dream job” after taking up the role at short notice to replace Phillip.

Welcoming stars to the awards at The Lowry theatre in Salford Quays, Jane said: “I’ve got to say I am a massive fan of the soaps so this is my dream job.

“Welcome to you all, thank you for having me.”

Referencing their location, close to the set of Coronation Street, McDonald told the audience of actors: “We’re here in Salford’s stunning Lowry theatre just a stone’s throw from some very famous cobbles.

“We’re so close to the Rovers that you can still smell Betty’s hotpot.”

The 60-year-old wore a deep red velvet full-length dress with a gathered design on one side and three quarter length sleeves.

The skirt of the dress had a fishtail design that flowed elegantly to the floor with the figure hugging gown complimenting her impressive figure.

The legendary TV star's brunette hair was styled down in glamorous curls that sat on her exposed shoulders – some long sparkly earrings were added to the look for a touch of bling.

Jane was one of the last stars to arrive but was all smiles as she walked the red carpet ahead of hosting this year's British Soap Awards.

Ahead of the ceremony, delighted Jane told her fans on Instagram: "Everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I've been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale so this is just a dream come true.

"I can't wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them – roll on the awards, I can't wait."

Away from her hosting duties, Jane is best known for the popular Channel 5 series Cruising With Jane and previously served on the Loose Women panel.

The ceremony is taking place on Saturday 3 June but will not be broadcast to the public until Tuesday 6th June at 8pm on ITV1.
