Kevin Clifton often spends time away from his girlfriend Stacey Dooley and their daughter Minnie.

The professional dancer is currently on a UK-wide tour with Strictly Ballroom: The Musical.

He has also recently embarked on a new TV project with the BBC where he explored his family tree.

Kevin will feature in an episode of Who Do You Think You Are? airing later this month, which saw him travelling across the pond to Canada.

Speaking exclusively with Express.co.uk and other press, Kevin opened up about what he discovered, admitting he finds it hard being away from Stacey and Minnie.

When discussing his current tour, Kevin began: “It is going really well but I am missing Stace and Minnie.

“Yeah, just because obviously I’m away in Dublin this week and Stacey started her tour as well.

“She’s on tour with her book, so yeah, I miss them a lot.”

He went on to joke: “But I’m also getting eight hours of sleep.”

Kevin also addressed the moment he was approached to take part in Who Do You Think You Are?

He said Stacey had also been asked by show bosses to take part, but her episode never got made.

He continued: “I think I was in Manchester and my agent called me just as I was sitting down and said, ‘Remember that conversation with Who do you think you are? Well, they want to make a TV episode’.

“I was really excited, and I remember I just calling Stace, and she was like, ‘No way, how has this happened? Like, how did I not get one and you’ve gone and got one – you’re the most English person I know’.”

During Kevin’s episode, the dance pro learned about a distant family member called Matooski.

The Strictly star stated: “It’s funny because I’m as far removed from Matooski. I’m a 40-year-old white man who’s a ballroom dancer.

“Growing up as a ballroom dancer, I’m as far removed from her life as I can possibly be.

“I’ve never had to experience any kind of prejudice or racism or anything like that. It’s just not something I’ve ever had to deal with.

“And to imagine that there is someone in my history that had gone through this and I’m so far removed from it.”

Kevin’s episode of Who Do You Think You Are? is available to watch on Thursday, June 22 at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
