Lacey Turner petrified of first marathon as EastEnders stars reunite for Barbara Windsor

EastEnders' Lacey Turner has admitted she is "petrified" of her first London Marathon on 23rd April.

The Stacey Slater star, 34, is reuniting with Jake Wood and Adam Woodyatt, as well as joining co-stars Tanya Franks, Natalie Cassidy and Heather Peace, to run for Alzheimer’s Research UK in honour of Dame Barbara Windsor.

Dame Barbara Windsor tragically passed away in 2020 aged 83 after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014, the late Peggy Mitchell actress and her husband Scott Mitchell went public with her diagnosis in 2018 in a bid to help other people or families battling the disease.

Appearing on Wednesday's This Morning, Scott, the leader of Babs' Army, spoke about him and the team running the London Marathon together on 23rd April for Alzheimer’s Research UK.

This is Scott's third (and last) Marathon in memory of his late wife, he is joined by EastEnders stars Lacey, Jake, Adam, Tanya, Natalie and Heather.

Talking about the upcoming marathon, Scott said: "It's something I'm really passionate about, going through what I did with Barbara and I know I'm not alone. This is what millions of people go through with their loved ones and caring for someone with dementia.

"I remember at the time, I just thought to myself: 'I can't beat you, you're bigger than I am!' I used to talk to the illness when it was taking hold of her, I said: 'But I will do everything that I can to one day see if I can make a little chip to get back at you' and that's why I do it in Barbara's legacy."

While Lacey revealed: "I was going to run it in 2019 with everyone and then I fell pregnant with Dusty, so I managed to escape!", adding: "I didn't feel like going to those lengths this time!"

Talking about her first marathon, the soap star admitted: "Yeah, I'm petrified but I'm also really excited. I'm excited to be a part of this team because they really are a good bunch of people.

"I am excited about being able to do this for the charity, for Barbara, for Scott, and for myself really."

Speaking about working with Barbara, Lacey sweetly said: "She was such an incredible woman, she just had a presence when she walked in the room – that you just couldn't ignore!

"She just took me under her wing when I started, and yeah, she sort of guided me. But I hear her now when I'm running, saying: 'Go on love, keep going!'"
