Legendary reality show AXED after 12 years on screen | The Sun

GEORDIE Shore has been axed after almost 12 years on screen.

Insiders said television bosses are pulling the infamous MTV show amid plummeting ratings.

Geordie Shore, which started in 2011, created a number of household names including Charlotte Crosby, Vicky Pattison and Gaz Beadle.

A source said: “MTV chiefs have decided the time has come to call it a day on Geordie Shore.

“The already commissioned series, which is the show's 24th, will go ahead with filming kicking off this weekend and the reunion will go ahead as planned later this summer.

"But once those have been filmed MTV have decided to rest the series and will not be commissioning any more.

"Think of it as resting the format rather than cancelling it out right.

“It's been one of the most successful runs of all time but the truth is it's not been the same for quite a few years. Bosses think it's the right time.

"The current stars of the show haven't been told it is being rested yet. Bosses can expect a mixed reaction – they love this show and they love filming it."

Geordie Shore was a smash hit when it first aired in 2011.

However, in recent years ratings have tumbled to barely over 100,000.

At its peak it was regularly pulling in more than one million viewers per episode.

The first-of-its-kind show documented a group of 20-somethings as they stumbled from bar to bar in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

The original cast included Charlotte, Gaz, Vicky, Jay Gardner, Holly Hagan, James Tindale, Greg Lake and Sophie Kasaei.

When it first aired the show caused a huge backlash, with Geordie Shore accused of glorifying binge-drinking.

Despite this, the series was a huge success and sparked spin offs including All Star Shore and the reunion shows

Vicky, 35, Charlotte, 32, and Gaz, 34, have all become millionaires thanks to countless lucrative brand deals and TV appearances off the back of their fame from the show.

Gaz has largely stepped back from the limelight to raise his two children Chester, five, and Primrose, three, with wife Emma Beadle.

However, Charlotte and Vicky are still regularly seen on TV.

Last summer, Charlotte, who used Geordie Shore fame to springboard into winning Celebrity Big Brother in 2013, welcomed her first child – daughter Alba – with boyfriend Jake Ankers.

Meanwhile, Vicky recently won critical acclaim with her hard hitting Channel 4 documentary Vicky Pattison: Alcohol, Dad and Me – seven years after winning I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

Speaking in November, Vicky, who quit Geordie Shore in 2014 after nine series, told how she hoped to emulate Stacey Dooley and carve out a career as an investigative TV journalist.

Vicky said: "I am so lucky that I got to make that documentary with Channel 4 this year. It’s benefited me and my dad so much emotionally.

"Not only that, I’ve had so many incredible messages from people saying that it’s had a positive impact on them.

"I am hoping to make more documentaries within that space, to make more films that help people – I would love to be recognised as an investigative journalist of some sort.
