Loose Womens Denise Welch under fire after comments about missing Nicola Bulley

Loose Women star Denise Welch has come under fire after comments made about the Nicola Bulley case.

The search for missing mum Nicola Bulley has been taking place for two weeks after vanishing while on a dog walk on January 27 after dropping off her two children at school in St Michaels on Wyre, Lancashire.

Her dog Willow was found wandering nearby while her phone was located on a bench by the river still connected to a work call.

As searches fail to provide more information, speculation has continued to grow – and Loose Women's Denise has warned against it.

The Loose Women ladies mentioned the case on their daytime talk show but during the conversation Denise said there has been a global creation of "armchair detectives".

She said: "I'm obsessed with true life crime. When I was young and you had the news at 6pm and a couple of newspapers, all of these things went on and you didn't know very much about it.

"But now we see it played out in real life and Lincoln and I are responsible for it because we know now, well we think we know, a lot about forensics."

Denise explained she was speculating on the case herself and said she was "screaming at the television" when people were walking along the area.

She had thought: "That should still be a crime scene, that should still be evidence", before adding to the panellists, "then I thought hang on a minute, there's obviously a reason why they haven't kept that."

Denise said that people think they know more – including herself – because of how many crime shows they watch.

Viewers immediately took to Twitter to share their frustration with Denise over the comments.

One user wrote: "So 'don't speculate about this case' has been what ITV has said ALL morning all throughout their programmes, while they sit there doing exactly that – speculating."

Another said: "Why are Loose Women allowed to talk about it and we're not?", while a third added: "There has to be some speculation. How is Nicola going to be found if theories are being ruled out because they make people uncomfortable to consider?"

It comes after the lead investigator Superintendent Sally Riley urged people "not to talk the law into their own hands" or "do anything that would thwart the investigation".
