Lorraine Kelly blames heavy weekend as she apologises for TV blunder

It was a chaotic start to Lorraine's show on Monday morning as she appeared on ITV Good Morning Britain to tease what was coming up – muddling her words before blaming a "heavy weekend".

Speaking to hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid a giggling Lorraine said: "Harry Hill… I'm going to be teaming up with him for a very interesting product," before correcting herself saying: "Project, even. So I'll see you at 9 o'clock."

Teasingly, Ed, 55, having spotted the blunder asked: "What is this product?"

And laughing Lorraine, 61, covered her face and explained: "It's a project, not a product. I'm sorry. I've had a very heavy weekend and I apologise, profusely."

Not allowing Lorraine of the hook Ed asked for more information and Lorraine replied: "Honestly, a young man like you doesn't want to know. You'd be shocked."

Fittingly, Lorraine's show kicked off with a segment on how to cure a hangover with Doctor Amir Khan and he continued to goad Lorraine by saying she looked a bit tired.

Lorraine then had to explain further and said: "I may or may not have been partying all weekend. My lovely Rosie threw us a totally surprise anniversary party."

She added: "So many people were there and I had absolutely no idea. It was lovely with all the attention to detail. She had flowers that were used from my bouquet 30 years ago.

"But it went on.. John Kelly, no relation, but he's like my big brother… he threw us another party yesterday. You know when you've got loads of booze left and you don't know what to do? So you have another one. It was great, really good."

Lorraine has been married to TV cameraman Steve Smith since 1992.

More celebrations in the Kelly household took place recently when she revealed it had been her mother's 81st birthday and shared a rare snap.

The presenter made a special announcement as she celebrated her mum's incredible milestone and said: "Now, I'd really like to wish a very happy birthday to my mum, I know she's watching because she watches every day."

A picture then popped up of her mother, she continued: "There she is! I can't believe I'm going to tell everybody, she's 81! It's ridiculous, it really really is…"

Lorraine also took to Instagram to post a sweet snap of her mother, writing: "Happy birthday to my lovely mum – can’t believe she’s 81!!"

Speaking to OK! exclusively about getting older, Lorraine, who is 61, said: "Well, I don’t feel old, that’s for sure! I think the key is to keep curious, keep active and keep questioning. I’m very lucky to do a job where I learn something new every day."
