Love Island fans question whether Jacques is ‘genuine’ after Paige confession

One Love Island couple seem to be heading for happily ever after – though some people are questioning whether one of them is truly invested.

Paige Thorne and Jacques O'Neill were coupled up for the last week or so before Jay Younger picked the Welsh woman to hook up with on Friday's episode.

During the latest episode, Jacques decided to pull Paige, 24, for a chat while their fellow Islanders were sleeping as he admitted that has "never cared" before in his life.

He said: "I didn't want to tell you that I cared" to which a confused Paige asked: "Why?"

Jacques continued: "Because why would I? I've never cared in my life, why do I want to tell people I care now?"

Paige was left confused as she pointed out: "What do you think I'm going to do with that information?"

Jacques added: "I don't know, that's why I wouldn't want to give you the information because I've told you that tonight like it automatically bothers me now

"Like what the f**k , why is it bothering me now, it wasn't bothering me last night when you were in bed with him and talking to him.

"It didn't, I didn't care, tonight it was making me f**king angry, it was literally making me angry and I didn't like it at all."

Viewers were quick to react to Jacques' comments as they pointed out that he was in an eight-month relationship with fellow Islander Gemma Owen, 19, prior to the show.

So his authenticity is being questioned, with one person writing: "I still can't put my finger on Jacques and how genuine he is towards Paige let's wait till Casa Amor that's when the real truth comes out."

While a second added: "Jacques isn’t genuine. He’s trying to make Paige feel bad for Jay picking her and speaking to jay!!! Jacques will f**K Paige off in a heartbeat. You forget £50,000 is on the table."

But others were quick to jump to his defence, with one commenting: "That chat between Jacques and Paige made me tear up a bit. Probably the most genuine interaction ever had on this show."

A second wrote: "Paige and Jacques all the way. Love them. Think they are so genuine and both deserve so much. Hope they win!!!

Another nicely summed up the situation by saying: "Twitter makes me laugh, half love Paige and Jacques and think he was genuinely opening up & has genuine feelings for Paige and the other half think he’s lying about the whole relationship "
