Love Island viewers in ‘utter disbelief’ as Shaq and Tanya say ‘I love you’

Love Island 2023 saw Shaq Muhammad and Tanya Manhenga become the first couple to confess their love for each other – just three weeks after being matched together by new presenter Maya Jama.

But fans were left stunned by their words so early on in the series. The confession came from the smitten couple after Shaq, 24, said to his beau: "The way I feel about you, it keeps getting stronger and stronger every day.

"Looking into your eyes, I do see a whole future with you. I know that what we have is very special. Looking at you, I want to tell you that… Tanya, I love you."

Squirming by his side, Tanya, 22, couldn't contain her excitement as she said: "I love you, too, babe."

And many decided to express their thoughts on Twitter after their heart-to-heart, with one writing: "No I still can’t believe Shaq and Tanya told each other they love each other what the actual f is this #loveisland."

Another said: "#loveisland I adore Tanya and Shaq, I can’t believe he just said he loves her, my heart is so full."

A third joked: "Shaq and Tanya are behaving like they’re on the titanic #loveisland."

"Shaq and Tanya will have a wedding before casa amor at this point #LoveIsland," a fourth said.

One social media user added: "A little early for the L word but ya know what??? Shaq and Tanya are so f*****g cute i don't care #loveisland."

Someone else wrote: "Happy for them but wow Tanya and Shaq are moving quick… #loveisland."

Upon Zara Deniz Lackenby-Brown's departure, the fiery contestant revealed that she reckons Tanya and Shaq will last on the outside.

Firstly speaking of Jessie Wynter and Will Young, she said: "If either of them are prepared to travel, or move, their energies really do match up, they really get along with each other."

Jessie, 26, had her sights set on sweet farmer Will, 23, almost instantly when she entered the villa as a bombshell alongside Aussie star Aaron Waters.

Zara, 25, then added: "I do genuinely think that Tanya and Shaq will last, too."

The episode also saw Zara be evicted from the South African vila after an intense recoupling.

The recoupling saw Essex star Ron Hall, 25, choose Tanyel Revan, 26, as his partner, after Australian contestant Aaron, 26, chose Lana Jenkins, 25.

Zara was the last one standing when Kai Fagan, 24, opted to make a go of things with newbie bombshell Samie Elishi, 22.
