Love Island’s Maya Jama hits back at trolls as she says new series is ‘elite’
Maya Jama has defended this year’s series of Love Island following claims that “no one is watching.”
The sun-soaked ITV2 show kicked off with a bang last Monday (June 5) – and has already delivered plenty of villa drama.
Bristol babe Maya, 28 is back on hosting duties for series 10 – following on from her Winter Love Island stint in January.

But despite the reception from fans, it was reported that the show got off to something of a bumpy start when it came to viewing figures.
For the launch episode on Monday, it emerged that an average of 1.3million people tuned in, which went up to 3 million overnight.
This marked a major difference from last year’s summer launch figures – with the 2022 premiere episode garnering an average of 2.4m.
However, it has since been revealed that in 2023, Love Island has been streamed online almost 200 million times.
It was also the biggest 16-24 audience on any channel since the World Cup in 2022.
Maya headed over to Twitter to share a Bristol Post article that detailed the incredible viewing figures from this year’s “elite” series.
She said people were "so quick to say viewers are low but the honeys are watching online on @ITVX. This season is ELITE thankyou very much.”
As expected, fans of Maya and the show rushed to the reply section to share their happiness at the huge success.
“This season honestly has kicked off Amazingly! Great cast with loveable people and villains, great twists and so far great bombshells! Can’t wait to see what else happens!” said one fan.
Another chimed in and proclaimed: “And it's actually the best season since number 6. And probably best first 2 weeks ever. Total carnage.”
Echoing their thoughts, a third penned: “An amazing season so far!!!”
Someone else gushed: "Drama In the 1st week , gossiping , game players , divides in the group…its what we LIVE FOR ! @MayaJama YOUR great host."
