Madge Bishop returns to Neighbours as a ghost in the final episode

Neighbours icon Madge Bishop will return to the beloved soap for the final episode as a ghost.

It’s already been confirmed that a number of famous faces, including the likes of Hollywood actress Margot Robbie and singer Kylie Minogue, will be reprising their roles one last time as the Australian soap prepares to end for good.

And producers couldn’t let fans kiss goodbye to Neighbours without Madge (played by Anne Charleston) making an appearance.

Of course, Madge was married to Harold Bishop (Ian Smith) and mum to Kylie’s character Charlene.

Her character met an untimely end in 2001 when she died from pancreatic cancer.

According to insiders, 79-year-old actress Anne was recently back on set to film her emotional scene for Friday’s finale on Channel 5.

‘There was no way that someone as iconic and legendary as Madge wasn’t going to be seen in the soap’s final ever episode,’ a source said.

‘It was just about how they could have her back when her death was such a huge part of the show’s history. It’s very clever.’

They added to The Sun: ‘The fans are going to get goosebumps – it’s magical.’

Lucinda Cowden, who plays Melanie Pearson, told Inside Soap magazine that she bumped into Anne during filming ‘and it was amazing’.

This won’t be the first time Madge has made an appearance in Neighbours following her death.

In 2015, she appeared as a vision to Harold for the soap’s 30th anniversary.

Neighbours is set to end after 37 years after Channel 5 controversially decided to drop it from their schedules in favour of ‘original UK drama’, which the broadcaster claims has a ‘strong appeal’ for audiences.

Neighbours: The Finale airs on Friday July 29 at 9pm on Channel 5.
