Magpie Murders episode 2 cast on BBC One
Magpie Murders: Official trailer for drama series
Magpie Murders is a 2016 mystery novel by author Anthony Horowitz, which was transformed for Britbox in February last year. Now, BBC fans are being treated to the same series with The Crown star Lesley Manville leading the cast as book editor Susan Ryeland, who has her own case to crack. Here’s everything Express.co.uk knows about the guest stars in Magpie Murders’ second episode.
Who is in the cast of Magpie Murders episode two?
Sir Magnus Pye – Lorcan Cranitch
Sir Magnus Pye is described as the selfish, egotistical lord of Pye Hall in Saxby-on-Avon.
His luck soon runs out in Magpie Murders though as he is murdered and it is up to Detective Atticus Pünd (Tim McMullan) to find who’s responsible.
Irish actor Lorcan Cranitch is best known for starring as Jimmy Beck in the 1990s series Cracker and Sean Dillon in Ballykissangel.
Most recently, Cranitch was behind DCS Jackie Twomey in the BBC crime drama Bloodlands.
Lady Frances Pye – Dorothy Atkinson
Lady Frances Pye is the arrogant wife of Sir Magnus Pye who quickly becomes a widow.
Theirs was a loveless marriage so she is far from devastated by his loss but could she have had anything to do with his demise?
Actress Dorothy Atkinson’s biggest role to date has been as Mary Pennyworth in the drama Pennyworth on HBO Max.
She has also worked on various other popular series in the past few years like Stonehouse, Without Sin, The Gold, Pistol and All Creatures Great and Small.
Sajid Khan / Dr Kamal – Sanjeev Kohli
Sajid Khan is author Alan Conway’s (Conleth Hill) solicitor who is a founding member of the law firm Wesley and Khan.
Conway based his character Dr Kamal on Sajid, with both of the men being portrayed by actor Sanjeev Kohli.
He is best recognised for playing Amandeep Jandhu in the BBC drama River City since 2016.
Kohli has worked on shows such as Still Game, Hope Springs, Shoebox Zoo, Avenue 5 and Dog Squad, as well.

Frederick – Nathan Clarke
Nathan Clarke is returning for the second episode of Magpie Murders as Conway’s resentful son Frederick Conway.
But could he know anything about his dad’s missing chapters and if so, would he be willing to help Susan?
Clarke was behind Danny in the 4 O’Clock Club in 2018 and Munir in FX’s Tyrant in 2015.
He has also been in We Still Kill the Old Way, The Interceptor, Plebs, Alex Rider and Nasty Neighbours.
Magpie Murders consists of six episodes in total with a new instalment airing every Saturday night.
The synopsis for episode two reads: “Susan’s search for the missing last chapter leads her to Abbey Grange, the grand home of Alan Conway, where she discovers that his notes are also missing.
“Meanwhile, Atticus Pünd and his faithful assistant Fraser are in Saxby on Avon investigating the murder of Sir Magnus Pye.”
Magpie Murders continues every Saturday at 9.25pm on BBC One. The series is also available to watch on Britbox and BBC iPlayer.
