Matt Hancock has been on a public relations comeback trail after many TV, radio and podcast appearances since he left his role in government. However he will be out of the comfort zone of a studio if he signs up to SAS: Who Dares Wins.

Channel 4 bosses reportedly want to show a different side to the MP by getting him on the much-loved reality show.

Matt left government after he was caught kissing his advisor Gina Coladangelo during the coronavirus pandemic.

He resigned after the uproar from the public for breaking Covid rules but is hoping to change opinion.

Bosses are reportedly “impressed” by the former minister and “want him to take part”.

“He would be the biggest name to have signed up for the next series and it would be a real coup for the show,” a source explained.

“Matt knows there is a mixed perception of him in the public eye and he thinks going on the show would reveal a different side to himself,” they added to The Sun.

Addressing the rumours, a spokesperson for Matt commented: “Matt gets a huge number of offers and is asked to appear on TV shows all the time but he has not signed up to anything.”

Channel 4 told Express.co.uk: “In the best traditions of the SAS, this mission is confidential. However, full details will be released when the series broadcasts next year.

“In the meantime, tune into the current series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, Sunday nights at 9pm on Channel 4.”

Bosses will no doubt be hoping Matt will share insights into his time in government and his resignation.

Earlier this year, he defended his affair on podcast The Diary of a CEO.

Matt told host Steven Bartlett: “I broke the social distancing guidelines. By then they weren’t actually rules, they weren’t the law.

“But, that’s not the point. The point is they were the guidelines that I’d been proposing.

He declared to the Dragon’s Den star: “That happened because I fell in love with somebody.”

His appearance on the podcast was mercilessly mocked by ITV host Lorraine Kelly.

“I don’t know what he’s come as. He looks like a Bond villain or a pound shop Milk Tray Man maybe?” she laughed.

Most recently, Matt ruled himself out a possible return to a Conservative cabinet or even for the top job in office.

He told BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt in July: “No, I am not going to run.

“But I do care very deeply that we have a new Prime Minister who can appeal to all parts and who is competent and serious and can take this country forward.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Channel 4 this Sunday at 9pm.
