Midsomer Murders is coming back to ITV soon with UK fans still waiting for season 22 to return.
Sarah Barnaby actress Fiona Dolman spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk as a new episode titled For Death Prepare is set to air at the end of May.
The series airs in the US ahead of the UK and she explained the cast is actually half-way through filming season 24.
When asked for the latest on filming and the show’s future beyond season 24, she said: “We are on season 22 [in the UK], there’s two episodes from series 22 they haven’t shown.
“And then the whole of series 23 they haven’t shown [in the UK] and we are currently filming series 24, we are on the second episode.”
On the show’s future she added: “I think we would love for it [to continue], long may it continue. It’s a wonderful job, it’s great fun to do.
“There are plenty of writers who are coming up with more ridiculous ways to murder people and there seems to be a very big national and international appetite for that, rather sickeningly, so long may it continue.
“Viewers have been very loyal, it used to be transmitted as a series in the UK first and that has changed in the last couple of years.
“So I’m very excited this episode is coming out this year and people think it’s worth the wait.

“I hope we do carry on as I think there’s an appetite for the show.
“Because everything is different, you have got your basic premise of ‘we need murders’ and then it’s up to the writers’ imagination on how they want to piece that together.
“So each one we do is a different writer, completely different cast with new circumstances.”
A synopsis for the upcoming episode reads: “The Midsomer Mummers, an amateur operatic society, are busy rehearsing for their charity concert when the body of an unknown man is found in their theatre.
“The investigation quickly becomes a race to discover who is desperate to be centre stage.”
Kevin Whately is Jeremy Whittingdale in the episode and he was tempted to guest star by the promise of Gilbert and Sullivan.
He said: “I’m a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan, I played Captain Corcoran in HMS Pinafore years ago.
“I think it was slightly looked down on in the past but some of the music is sublime and of course the lyrics are hilarious.
“Without a doubt it is the more accessible face of opera that’s the reason I did this particular episode of Midsomer, it seemed like great fun all of us having a little sing.”
