Murder and stunts: Autumn preview for EastEnders, Corrie, Emmerdale & Hollyoaks

It’s been a long hot summer – in the land of soap and otherwise – but things are only just starting to heat up for the nation’s biggest serial dramas.

With epic stunts, deadly twists and an anniversary special that will well and truly blow your mind, it’s safe to say that soap fans are in for quite the treat this autumn.

A history-making flashback episode is on the cards as well, as is an epic storm that will quite possibly change everything for the residents in Emmerdale.

Strap yourselves in, folks, it’s going to be quite the ride.

Metro.co.uk has done some digging, just for you, and here’s everything that’s on the menu.

Be afraid, be very afraid. But also very excited.

Expect the unexpected in a terrifying autumn that will change the face of soapland as we know it.

EastEnders

If you’re not watching EastEnders right now – why not? – then you’d better make a note to start tuning in come autumn time, because it’s ALL going down in Walford.

The BBC One soap is hot off its best summer in years, with the return of Sam Mitchell, a very royal visit and a magnificent car stunt having kept audiences captivated.

it’s safe to say that an exciting autumn is set to follow, so with the iPlayer boxsets now at an end, make a note to tune in live, as EastEnders is very much appointment viewing these days.

Phil Mitchell has been at the centre of much of the drama as of late, as he’s done everything in his power to find out exactly what it is that DI Keeble is after.

His own investigation, however, leads him on a trip down memory lane, with viewers being given a rare opportunity to go back in time to see what life was like for the Mitchells in 1979.

Will the sins of the past end up impacting the future?

Sam, meanwhile, is busy plotting against her own brother, as she and Jonah Tyler are in cahoots to bring Phil down once and for all. Will she do what she’s set out to do and prove that – despite what everyone thinks – she’s as much as Mitchell as her siblings?

Or will her betrayal prove to be the last thing she ever does?

Speaking of scheming and plotting, Janine Butcher is determined to get her happy ending with Mick Carter, but no matter how hard she tries to shake her doubts, she knows that her beau’s love for soulmate Linda will never go away.

As a result, she ups the ante in a bid to get rid of the landlady.

The dastardly schemer, however, has underestimated Linda one too many times, so expect shocks and surprises along the way as this quintessentially EastEnders feud continues.

Mick is, of course, stuck in the middle of their rivalry, and recent scenes saw him discover that his love for Linda is as alive as ever. Will the former golden couple of the Square relight that fire before Danny Dyer’s departure? What’s more, will Mick find out what Janine has been up to?

If so, will he pay the ultimate price at her hands?

Elsewhere in Walford, Suki Panesar will continue to struggle with the guilt of taking a life. The matriarch believes that she’s killed Ranveer Gulati, but little does she know that Ranveer was actually killed by his son Ravi – who she’s just gone into business with!

Secrets never stay secret for long in Albert Square, so is it only a matter of time before the truth outs?

Suki, as viewers know, is also battling with her feelings for Eve Unwin, who has been there to support her when everyone else walked away. Will romance blossom between the two?

And on the topic of lovers, we’ve got Ben Mitchell, who made it quite clear that he and husband Callum Highway are no more. Callum, however, has reiterated time and again that he and Ben are meant to be, so is it only a matter of time before they reunite?

Romance is actually on the minds of many a Walfordian come autumn time, as Billy sets out to reunite with Honey, while Kat and Phil prepare to tie the knot.

But with Alfie Moon set to stage a comeback, will the bride and groom-to-be even make it down the aisle?

The seeds have been cleverly sewn for drama and the stage has oh-so-deliciously set for chaos, and we can hardly wait to see what transpires in a must-see autumn in EastEnders.

Coronation Street

The colder weather may be approaching as we bid farewell to summer, but make no mistake, things in Weatherfield are only just starting to heat up.

It’s been a quieter summer for the residents of the cobbles, but the autumn brings with it drama aplenty, starting with Toyah Battersby’s day in court.

The former counsellor will have quite the task on her hands to prove that she didn’t kill her beloved beau Imran Habeeb, but will she manage to pull it off?

The jury is still out on that one – uh so to speak!

Toyah also found herself unable to resist the spark between she and former lover Spider Nugent, who delighted us all when he made a surprise return to the eponymous street earlier this year.

Spider, however, is harbouring a secret, and his presence on the cobbles could prove a distraction that Toyah simply cannot afford at this moment in time, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it all pans out.

Gary Windass, meanwhile, could similarly be set to face the music, as despite his efforts to cover up Rick Neelan’s demise, it may only be a matter of time before the truth is unearthed.

The loveable rogue’s dark past becomes the topic of speculation for Kelly, as she starts to wonder just how far he has gone in a bid to get what he wants.

Will she put two and two together?

We’ll just have to wait and see. Kelly, however, is set to leave the street, and with upcoming scenes teasing a deadly showdown involving thugs, her life is well and truly on the line.

Is death set to claim another character? It’s a possibility, that’s for sure. Regardless of Kelly’s fate, Aadi will be left heartbroken, given that he is hellbent on marrying her in scenes airing on screen right now.

Across the street, the case to prove Stu Carpenter’s innocence continues, and things are looking up as he receives an ally in Yasmeen Metcalfe. Will he be able to find the evidence to prove that he’s not a killer?

Stephen Reid, meanwhile, returned to the street earlier this year, and his presence has brought much joy for Audrey Roberts. But the businessman clearly has ulterior motives, which have yet to be revealed, but he’ll be right at the centre of the drama come autumn.

Speaking of Audrey, the much-loved character re-opens her iconic salon, and we couldn’t be more excited about that.

It’s not just Audrey that’s starting a new chapter, however, as it’s all change for many a street favourite, as Sean Tully’s son Dylan contemplates a permanent move to Weatherfield, while George Shuttleworth’s sister Glenda starts working at the pub.

Sounds like we’re in for an interesting few months!

Emmerdale

It’s going to be quite an unforgettable autumn for the nation’s most famous village, as Emmerdale celebrates its 50th anniversary.

The show, as you can imagine, is going all out in an explosive way, and that involves a huge storm, which is set to bring with it death!

‘As part of our big 50th week, though we’re doing a month of celebration, the big 50th week will focus on a massive storm that is going to rip through the village and leave an absolutely massive trail of destruction in its wake,’ said boss Kate Brooks.

‘Some of our best-loved villagers will be in peril and it’s safe to say that literally the village won’t be the same after this. It’ll never be the same again because the impact the storm has on people’s lives is massive. So that is our big set-piece stunt.’

Kim and Will’s wedding will also be at the centre of the special month, but Harriet Finch is set to cause problems for the bride and groom-to-be, because she’s still secretly in love with Will.

The question is: just how far will she go to stop the ceremony? And will she face the wrath of the terrifying Kim Tate?

Elsewhere, Amelia Spencer is due to give birth soon, but bosses are keeping tight-lipped on when exactly that will be.

Chas and Al, meanwhile, are seemingly set to continue their sordid affair, despite claiming to have put an end to it. Will they finally get caught? If so, will they face consequences?

Chas’ attention, however, should very much be elsewhere in the coming months, as Faith’s ongoing battle with cancer continues, and this story will also be a key focus of the anniversary week.

Three huge returns are also on the cards, with Diane Sugden, Aaron Dingle and Tracy Metcalfe set to stage a comeback – but just what will their comebacks entail?

Then of course there is Mackenzie Boyd and Charity Dingle, who both recently suffered a devastating loss. Upcoming scenes, however, will see Mackenzie cheat on Charity, so just how long will it be before that secret explodes in an huge way?

Hollyoaks

Emmerdale isn’t the only village where chaos will reign supreme this autumn, as it’s all kicking off in Hollyoaks as well, with death, drama and destruction on the menu.

Consider us excited.

Silas Blissett will, at long last, make his return to the eponymous village, after months of manipulating and tormenting Bobby Costello online, and let’s just say that there will be hell to pay for Mercedes.

Mercedes, however, isn’t the only member of the McQueen clan to find themselves in danger, as pretty much the entire family is caught in the killer’s dastardly plot.

Who will live? More importantly, who won’t?

Speaking of killers, Norma Crow will continue to cause chaos for the residents of the village, namely James Nightingale, who will find himself struggling with gambling and temptation once more.

DeMarcus Westwood, meanwhile, is languishing behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit, after killer Joseph Holmes implicated him in Saul Reeves’ murder, but the truth is on the cusp of outing, with next week proving to be an unmissable one in regards to this storyline.

Felix visits DeMarcus in young offenders, and in a special two-hander episode, the father and son’s relationship is explored in great detail.

Another person in serious danger this autumn is Maxine Minniver, who will be at the centre of an episode entitled The Long Walk Home.

The outing in question will shine a light on the fears and risks women face daily when walking home after a night out.

Viewers can also expect huge developments for radical misogynist Eric Foster, as his obsession with Cindy Cunningham continues, while Sienna Blake continues to toy with Joel Dexter, threatening to spill the beans about his role in Warren Fox’s hit-and-run.

Will she, however, go through with her plot?

As ever with Hollyoaks, the pièce de résistance will lie in its incredible upcoming stunt, which is set to be one of their most incredible to date.

‘I mean, we’re going for it!,’ exclaimed Hollyoaks’ Executive Producer when discussing it with Metro.co.uk last month. ‘We are absolutely going for it.

‘There is definitely a huge amount of jeopardy,’ she said. ‘There are also, in true Hollyoaks style, some unexpected twists and turns along the way.

‘I think you all know that, our big bad is back, in the form of Silas Blissett! So no-one is ever safe.’
