New NCIS field agent Devin Roundtree (played by Caleb Castille) has already proven himself as a capable and beloved member of the team following his debut in the 11th season of NCIS: LA. Now, just a few years after his introduction to the elite task force, a shocking new teaser trailer could have some viewers worried his time on the hit CBS drama is coming to an end.

Agent Roundtree is caught in a fiery explosion at the end of the latest promo for NCIS: LA season 14.

In last Sunday’s episode, Roundtree’s colleague Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) is devastated when his son Aiden (Tye White) aborts a crashing plane and is blamed for the incident.

Thankfully, he suffered no severe physical injuries, but the same may not be said for Roundtree once their next mission is through.

The fifth episode of the spin-off’s current outing, Flesh and Blood, will feature some more personal stories for the NCIS agents.

An official synopsis reads: “NCIS is called to investigate when a woman is seen fleeing the scene of her husband’s murder.

“Roberta Deeks (Pamela Reed) comes into town to meet Rosa (Natalia del Riego), and Sam looks for another aide for his father.”

This week’s episode will see the long-awaited return of Marty Deeks’ (Eric Christian Olsen) mother after adopting Rosa with his wife Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah).

Meanwhile, Hanna is still busy looking after his father Raymond (Richard Gant) after moving in with him to look after his failing health.

However, the agents’ busy family lives could just be a distraction from a devastating twist which will cap off this weekend’s outing of NCIS: LA.

This episode sees the agents facing off against an enemy named Parsons who seems to have it out for the agents.

At the start of the trailer, Hanna warns: “Parsons has enough explosives to take out an entire city block.”

All hands are on deck this episode, as the trailer then reveals Sam and his partner G Callen (Chris O’Donnell) approaching a building with firearms.

Agent Deeks also appears to be on the scene, cocking his own pistol at an unseen target.

The trailer then cuts to the man who could be Parsons, who takes a wild shot at Agent Roundtree.

His shot seems to have hit its target, as Roundtree is then seen being flung through the air by a massive explosion.

Parsons seems to have succeeded in setting off at least part of his trap, with Roundtree caught in the blast.

Nothing about actor Caleb’s exit from the series has been confirmed so far, but the series has been known to surprise viewers in the past.

Alternatively, Roundtree could be left with severe wounds which render him out of action for at least the next few NCIS missions.

More details are being kept tightly under wraps for now, so fans will just have to tune in this Sunday to witness what could be a tragic outcome for the LA team’s next mission.

NCIS: Los Angeles season 14 continues Sundays on CBS in the USA. A UK release date is yet to be announced.
